Sounds Like I'm another victim here as well, considering my car decided to loose power last sat out the blue, and then i pulled over i tried to restart the engine was really lumpy and struggling to tick over, had to call the break down, and he drive it around and said car seems to be ok, if the revs are kept above 2k he suggested the cars fault might be the throttle control body or Sensor.

as the car is a automatic 206cc its a pay stopping and keeping the revs up, the break down guy told me id be ok to drive it home, I'll just have some fun when stopping and pulling away well embarrassing pulling away like a snail.

any way i changed the spark plus and cleaned all the air pipes the next day and seemed to have no effect. so i took it to the main dealer the next day, which when i woke up Monday the car wouldn't even start i had to jump leads out. and warm the car up as every time i put it in reverse or drive the car just.

well i got into, garage in the end. and i had a phone call Tuesday stating that they thought it was the coil pack that needed replacing? i thought great not a bit issue,

then Wednesday they phone me back up and said its not an electrical problem its a mechanical problems and cylinder 2 is low on compression, and they suggest that the Inlet and outlet valve have ever burnt out or are stuck. and my Bill was standing at £200 at moment and they said to strip my engine down etc is going to cost a further £300. It all Means Nothing to me.

then they said to me cause I've had so much problems with my car when i got last may, they suggested that they would take the car off my hands, and also pay the current charges. and also cover my negative equity on my finance, if decided to buy a bran new car off them,

do they know something about my car i don.t? shame i cant the finance for another car, so looks like im stuck with the blue 206cc 1.6 auto

any one know if those symptoms could be the course of what they are saying?

Cost sounds reasonable for doing all that. I thought the tappet issue affected 2.0 litre engines, not the 1.6 though.
I would ask myself:
How many miles has the car done and has it been serviced properly all of its life, especially oil and filter changes?
Has good quality petrol been used all the time or has someone been using supermarket petrol?
Has it ever overheated?

Hi Ron,

Well the car has done, 54,000 Miles, cars only 5 years old, well apparently the garage, have the service history back up till 2004 but the car is a 02 plate when i bought the car used of the garage they didn't give me no service history, but they've offered to print all the services history back upto 2004.

So its had a service and regular oil changes, though i did miss the 48,000 service, but having no documents i didn't know when the next service was.

they have now said that the sticky engine valves have have caused the tappets to go, some how and other, Low oil compression or something like that on one of the chambers.

well cause of there lies and having the car nearly 3 half weeks and cause I've had nothing but problems since day one, they decided to discount my bill to £900 not bad, but they still can't get my car to tick over properly

So what fuel do you recommend, BP ultimate and Shell V max?

I have a 2.0 2001. I use BP ordinary unleaded for every day use and BP ultimate in if I'm doing long motorway driving. She does OK on both, just uses twice as much petrol if I use ultimate.
