Guess it's a good job things are warming up, but this afternoon had the climate control set to 23 degrees or so and the heater air turned cold. The fan continued running and the water temperature gauge was within normal limits. I got where I was going but when I got into the car to come home tonight, again the heater output was cold, it was 7 degrees outside. There seems to be plenty of water in the cooling system, the control panel works as expected and everything can be selected as normal, just no hot air!

Felt the rad hoses on getting home, again these were as hot as expected.

Anyone got any thoughts on what could be causing this?

sounds like the intertor air temp sensor has gone wrong.
tis not measuring the air temp inside correctly.
maybe full of fluff, thats the normal kinda fault you get with it
its behind the 3 little slots at the bottom right of the passenger air bag if you wanna check it. :)

There isn't any fluff blocking the hole and down as far as the fan looks fine. I'll try and get the glove box out going behind the fan to make sure that's clear too.

Many thanks for your help. I'm hoping it's that rather than a failure of the heater matrix or something. The temp gauge shows around 90 degrees and there's plenty of coolant in (if anything, too much coolant after the last service).

cool ,hope it works :0
if not you need to move on to the little motor thats on the side of the heater box behind the dash. it controls the the mixer flap. put your temp up and down using the button, and check to see if the motor is moving the flap. :)

Wow you clearly are a genius  I've not dismantled the dash yet but I gave it a good blow down the hole and the heater has recovered. Will still dismantle it, now I can see there's a fan there it could have sucked all sorts down there in the last 4 years ;)

Many thanks,
Dave

no probs, glad i could help. another £70 labour saved and £90 on parts.
best thing is to pull out stereo, can get ya hand down the back and pop the temp unit out. be careful though, tis fragile. :)
