I too have a problem with a sluggage 1.6 s. Have looked around and taken this from a general 206 site. Is it simply a change of petrol?

Poor Running :
General poor engine performance / sluggish response / Flat spots, UK based GTI's more prone than
other models.
Fix : This one may be just a change of petrol, believe it or not my newsgroup contacts have
indicated which petrol they find Peugeot engines run best on, top marks went to Texaco, BP and
Sainsbury's, worst Esso and Shell, Esso is a recommended lubricant supplier!!. Super Unleaded
works well for some, but why pay more, ask your dealer to pay the extra!

How on earth can you say it runs best on Sainsbury's petrol? They won't even use the same supplier as each other...

Maybe i am lucky not to have this problem, but i generally find that 16v motors have to be driven more specifically than 8v ers (all you ppl with problems just upgraded?)
I also find that the driver has a lot to do with it. When i got in my mates 2 litre cc it was fairly sluggish, but once i ragged it around for a couple of miles it was running a lot better. Maybe generally this problem occurs coz the SE cc'ers are a bit more speed happy? Bear in mind that both engines dont really kick in until you hit nearly 4000 revs!

Can any of the 1.6 owners who have suffered hesitance tell me if their gear boxes crunch when they are put it into reverse (unless you double declutch).
My 1.6 is awful at pulling away up hill, I can totally let the clutch out and use full throttle and still have to wait for it to bite properly :x
Mine crunches when I put it into reverse, so I am pretty sure that the problem is clutch drag. Just hope that the pug monkeys will be able to fix it as a few milimetres will make all the difference (or they will really knacker it)
Yeah Cotswold mine does and i got the exact same as yours, color and everything!!

Mine is fixed!!!
finally fixed the hesitancy on my 1.6 cc
cleaned the throttle butterfly with wd-40

took off the ribbed tube that goes from the air filter to the engine
right at the point it meets engine
when you take it off you see the butterfly
here is a picture

see the grey deposits at the bottom?(beneath tbe 2 golden coloured screws)
i cleaned off all that with wd40
now it looks clean and i notice a big difference in driving it
no hesitancy and no lag when i press gas like it used to be

finally fixed the hesitancy on the 1.6 engine!!
convinced the dealer to upgrade my ECU software
i had version 1407 and he installed 2104
huge difference
much more responsive
the best way to describe it is before the connection between the fuel pedal and the engine was with an elastic band
you press gas, and after a brief pause the engine picks up
not it's as if the connection is solid
the second i press gas the car picks up
and i seem to be pressing less gas
so the smallest of movements on the gas pedal show an immediate response in the engine.
feels faster, but i can't confirm that with times etc

I started this post in April 2002 - 2 weeks after picking up our new cc.
The car still has this lethal problem - when you move off from Junctions, normally on a cold engine - it suffers the problem so well described in this thread.
It moves off normally, then it loses power and all throttle response for maybe 1 to 2 seconds, then it starts to accelerate again.
Our Peugeot dealer has been fantastic and we have no complaints with them - our complaint is with Peugeot.
The engine also developed a metallic tapping noise at around 6 months old, that sounds like a faulty tappet (hydraulic lifter) this is still unresolved.
We have had : - Software upgrade
then A new set of hydraulic tappets
then Software upgrade
then A new set of valves due to faulty manufacture
then Software upgrade
then A new cylinder head together with new camshafts
Prior to the fitting the new cylinder head a couple of weeks ago, it had its last software upgrade - this helped the general poor driveability of the engine - but this "bogging down" problem still happens - The trouble is it is totally random. It did it to my wife on thursday and friday, and it did it to me last night, when i was nearly hit by a car that had let me out at a junction, but expected me to drive off, not sit in the road !!.
We cannot cope with this any more - the car is mint and has only done 13000 miles since new - it has spent its life in the dealership.
We have 6 months of warranty left - but we need some advice - hence my question - has anybody ever had this succesfully sorted ?
I look forward to any advice.
Thanks
Antoni

I seem to find that filling up with one of the advances fuels (shell optimax, bp ultimate) that the hesitance isn't quite as noticable and that the car pulls stronger from a cold start.
Not a real solution I know but I think it helps.
