I do not know an awful lot about the proposed Renault Spider. I read about it on the Web when I was toying with the idea of purchasing the old style Renault spider. Basically I was searching for a hard top for it, but is turns out that the original Renault spider is a pure track day car and only has a cover for when its parked.
The article I found mentioned that there were two versions in the pipe line both on the same body/ chassis. One was a two seater with a ragtop and would be a direct rival for the Elise and replacement to the last Spider. Another version was to have a hard top similar to the new Megane cabrio and I believe both cars were to have aluminium chassis. I am afraid there were no pictures as even the article said it was all hush hush for the moment. It did say that the styling would be less aggressive than the last Spider, which is a shame. However it said that the focus was on it being a real drivers car.
I do not own a Saxo. But personally think they are great little cars. The VTS and 106 GTI are classics in the same way as the old 205GTI is. They are what they are simple and fun to drive. My partner is on her second Saxo. Perhaps I should get her on the Forum. One of the most fun cars I have ever driven was a 1.4 AX GT. It had a body made of plastic and poprivets and only 85bhp, but what fun.
I personaly see nothing wrong with the gearbox, clutch or driving position of the CC. I found the suspension set up was the only let down. Nothing that a few hundred quid wouldn't sort out. You have to recognise that the CC is a cabrio and does not offer the structural rigidity of a fixed top car. That said I have never found scuttle shake a problem. I drive enthusiastically on occasions and feel the car is very well balanced. It isn't a racecar but I have toyed with people in the past and haven't come unstuck or looked silly yet (hence I will not accept your challenge in August! ). It is not a track day car but my 2L gives me more pleasure than cars I have driven with twice the power simply because it has no top and the sensation of speed and acceleration is greatly increased. Oh yes Ferraris do not screech they gracefully rasp
I just do not see the point with the current idea that car manufacturers have at increasing engine power at such dizzy engine speeds. If you have not got max power below 6000 rpm then on the street you end up looking like a hooligan. There is nothing more graceful than a car overtaking at just above idle engine speeds. That’s why I think the 206 180 is going to be a let down. Giving the standard 2l-engine variable valve timing to increase power above 6000rpm is stupid. The 206 needs more low down grunt to pull away faster hence the extra power should have been built in at lower engine speeds. Don’t worry you are not the first person to disagree with me on this..
I guess I am not into engines that feel binary and prefer my accelerator pedal to feel more linear in response. Hence I do not like turbo'ed cars either. As for disliking Hondas please take it as a thumbs up that I think your new car looks great. I had to drive a VTEC Civic once and it has put me off for life. I didn’t like anything about it. The worst part was the steering. It felt like you were on black ice all the time, I think Honda has moved on since making such a cars.
I think the Integra type R will be a great track day car and you should appreciate that your CC has not depreciation too much since you purchased it. Not sure you will say the same about the type R, but then if it is what you want go for it you only live once. You Just should not compare a track day car with a sporty car. I once went down the route of more power in cars. There is always a car out there with more power. But if your not going to use the power what is the point?
Hope you enjoy your new car.
