2. A banana is not a fruit, but a berry
Ah, but a berry IS a fruit.

http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=berry

And, indeed, they also reckon a banana is a fruit (as does the OED).

Couldn't agree more. This was a question for the pedant I think you will find that there are botnical definitions which are more refined than the common usage. Banana are commonly considered fruit. The pedantic botanist would not agree

The english language is dynamic meaning of words can change

Look at the dictionary the word Decimate has two meanings it comes from the latin decimare which has a very diferent meaning to the common usage.

I think me misunderstood the question. The whole banana plant is a herb ....yes.... but only part of it, the bit you eat is the fruit berry what ever you like to call it.

As far as I'm concerned, it's a fruit. What type of fruit it is can be argued about but not by me.

I was always taught that if the seeds were on the inside, it's a fruit (apples, pears, bananas, tomatoes etc) otherwise it's a vegetable - unless it's a fungus, of course. A very general and not always accurate definition, but a somewhat useful one nonetheless.
