Cars are a bit of a weakness for me (I have 11 of them) and I have found that trackers/monitored immobilizers are only of real value of you have a lot of modifications done to the car that insurance couldn't really replace if the car was stolen, as far as a standard car with 3rd party equipment which is still available on the market is concerned why would you want it back? for the first 2 years from new my insurance hands over a new replacement car and the policy is $677 AUD. you can't lose.

It seems to me if it's got a tracker and the police don't manage the chase/follow correctly, it could end up smashed up as a result anyway (although I would think unless someone has inside knowledge, help, or the keys, they're only likely to be able to move it on a low-loader, and even then there's little hope for ever getting it started).... trackers/monitored immobilizers are only of real value of you have a lot of modifications done to the car that insurance couldn't really replace
I liked the sound of the South African idea where you had a credit-card sized device carried in a wallet. If someone gets in even with the key or carjacks you, the car will drive away but stop within a mile or so flashing the lights and horn. It does come back to the original idea though where they could only nick the more recent cars with a low-loader or inside help.
