won't start when hot

Post by RACHEL ASH »

Hi there, I am new to this site. I am having probs with my 206 yr 2004 miles47000. My car starts fine first thing, but if I was to nip anywhere then get back in it. It wont start, just has a clicking noise-all the lights/radio still comes on. It is getting worse, as it will only allow me to do one journey, then I have to leave it, 2 hours later it will start again. please help.

Welcome Rachel

Is it a 206 hatchback you have? This forum is dedicated to the 206 cabriolet but the cars are very similar. Sounds like a start motor problem to me but I'll let those who know their stuff advise.

Yep. Sounds starter related. Check connections to starter are tight and free of corrosion. A good auto electrician can test your starter for you, and probably repair it too.

If it is not still on the original battery I'd say definitely starter motor.

My wife's uncle has a 2004 206 1.6 SE hatchback. It had the same symptoms. Started fine from cold, but was a problem when hot. A new starter motor cured it.

A couple of years after that it started playing up again but it was losing its radio memory and clock time as well. That time it needed a new battery.

Why do you think it's ignition? Is the clicking coming from the starter (engine area) or somewhere else?

hi there, the clicking noise comes from under the bonnett. But sometimes if you turn the key really slowly it does sometimes start, but it dosn't always work.

thanks

Hi can you tell me the outcome of replacing the stater motor?

I have exactly the same problem with my car and beginning to pull my hair out as no mechanic has been able to fix the car!

Thank you

It will have fixed it rachgreen. RACHEL ASH will only have come on here to enable her to sort out her problem. Having sorted it she didn't bother to let us know the outcome.

What are the precise symptoms on yours, and what model do you have? Also provide details of age, mileage and service history - we'll try to help you. Welcome to the forum.
