Cutting out while for sale!

Post by blundell74 »

Hi All

My 206cc have given me 18 months of relatively trouble free motoring (apart from new clutch). It is now for sale and an interested party has paid a deposit as it behaved impecably on their test-drive.

However, I drove the car yesterday and on the motorway it ran a bit lumpy then cut-out when I stopped at a roundabout. It restarts no probs and no warning lights stay on.... The fault happened again a few minutes later but then didn't happen again.
Its a well maintained 51plate with 55k miles on the clock.
I don't want to sell it with this issue. Anyone got any suggestions of what it could be?
My BF reckons it sounds like a fuel starvation problem. Is he right? Or maybe new cat required?

Any advice from you guys would be most appreciated.

dont get a cat, a dog is more fun, :rotfl: lol, sorry such a bad joke,it sounds as you say fuel, maybe some dodgy fill up somewhere!, how long after getting lumpy did it stop, also did it take a lot of turning over before restarting? peter.

Thanks Peter. An oldy but a goody!
Car only cut out after lumpiness only when you have already stopped. Luckily it didn't die on the motorway!
I only use BP fuel as I'm aware of dirty/contaminated fuel from cheaper places causing probs.
I'm debating bunging a new coil pack in. Could that be the cause?
Thanks
Charlie.

Ps my better half has just reminded me that this happened a few weeks back. Got lumpy at 70mph, so I pulled over & engine then died. Restarting is never a prob.

Thanks for that Cheekee. No idea what a MAP sensor is so I shall google....
Were your 'symptoms' the same as mine?
