I currently own a 206 1.1 LX 51 reg which I bought second hand from Peugeot Exeter. Last week the engine management light came on and I lost power. The engine didn't cut out at all but I did get the standard warning beeping noise.
I managed to get the vehicle to my destination which wasn't far and due to reasons out of my control had to contact my breakdown company much later in the day. The operator took a brief look but being unable to fix the problem towed the car back to my home address.
The warranty by the way ran out a few days beforehand! The car went into the local garage this week and they checked it out. Believing it to be the coil pack. They ordered a new one and fitted it but a problem still existed. From what they tell me it may be the ECU due to a voltage spike??
To be honest it means nothing to me. The garage was very helpful but said that Peugeot would have to have a look.
They did say that according to their readings the ECU has registered a problem four times previously??
What's the best way to deal with this?
From what the local garage says the ECU is about £600
I have had a look around on the web and have seen that this was may have been higlighted on Watchdog and Top Gear in the past??
Thanks
