Never been so happy and disappointed - both at the same time

Well with any luck my 206CC will be gone within a week - new car will be in my hands by Friday if all goes well.

I was undecided between a low spec 307 or an MG ZR 105 Rallye so off I trundled today to a dealership who had both franchises side by side. I went to the MG franchise first and more or less had a deal of a straight swap but I would need to pay extra for the metallic paint which would be another £300.

I asked if I didn't see anything I liked or the deal was not right for a 307 if they would look at giving the metallic paint for free and the guy said they would see what they could do.

So next door I goes to look at the 307 - very undecided as in the model I was going to get, the only colour available that I liked was Aegean Blue and the 307CC will be that colour as well. Worry no longer, I looked inside to see cheap looking fabric seats and that was enough to put me off - especially as I would possibly need to pay something towards it - not to mention these 15" plastic wheel trims :yuck:

The sales guy from MG had more or less followed me and was still hanging around while I'm looking at the 307 :D I didn't mind as he was probably around my dads age and was a decent guy - can't be bothered with the idiot sales guys :P

So he spoke to his boss and they agreed a straight swap - I ended up paying £100 as the model I was getting had 16" alloys so I upgraded to 17" for the extra £100 - they look far better.

I never took a brochure so I'll give you an idea of what I'm getting from what I can remember:

MG ZR 105 Rallye II
Ignition Blue (shiny blue colour)
1.4 engine - 105bhp
Usual features such as remote locking, electric wondows etc... but no aircon :(
Rallye Pack - Side Skirts, Alloys (now upgraded to 17") and large rear spoiler
Part Leather Interior

Nice enough car to drive and sporty, unlike what a base 307 would be. Decent interior look wise altho a bit cheap looking but Pugs aren't much better in all honesty. MG don't have the best name but can't be much worse than Peugeot if at all.

All in I'm very happy as it's a nice looking car, I got a deal in line with what I was hoping for and it's a brand new car with 3 year warranty and no miles against the 45k on the 206CC. One of my main requirements was Free Insurance as I will need my existing NCD for the 307CC when I get it - I got Free Insurance and taking into account I'm starting from scratch it's worth around £900.

The car is pre-registered but not the end of the world as it was only registered on 30th October and hasn't done any miles.

Pics to follow when it arrives - comments good or bad welcome :D

the mg's are surprisingly good looking cars but not to keen on them as they are just souped up rover 200's which was a pretty poor car. but you can't go wrong for the price and spec. So are you still getting the 307cc as your main car?

the fact on what they are based on is the risky part - but it's worth it :P

307CC still in the plans, initially for March but i will decide nearer the time due to finances as a 2nd car was only planned to cost around £3k initially and not this much.

Well good luck with your car(s). Looks like another ex owner soon! I'm sure there are more ex owners than actual owners on this forum

 Hopefully I'll at least be a cc owner of sorts by the end of next week :D

Good luck with your new cars Derek. Even though the MG is based on quite an old car they've done well to keep it looking good. I looked at one when I changed my 206cc but at the time they'd concentrated on updating the exterior rather than the interior. From the photos above though it looks like they've smartened that up too - nice! :D

Derek, welcome to the EX CC owners group :)

I did the same thing this year. Despite my divorce I ended up blowing £17k on my run around car - mental I know and now I have just blown £11.5k on a plate for it.

You only live once so just enjoy it is my new look on life.

Never mind the vents lol, I think the console switch gear looks a bit Audi too ;o)

The ZR still looks nice an sporty and value for money.

Nice choice of 2nd car Derek.

if it looks anything like audi gear it certainly isn't of the same quality

it certainly looks far sportier than a basic 307 :P

it might be a 2nd car but now i still have to buy the 1st car

Have you ever driven one? I had a 200vi before I bought the CC and I loved it. It was one of those pocket rockets in disguise. To look at it was just another boring Rover but it was quick and handled really well, none of the usual scary dramatic understeer of most FWD cars, a real 'country lane' type of car. It was reliable too, never needed any warranty work in the three years I had it.

Good choice Derek. :D

gotta be better than the CC adrian - last monday £196 of repairs and today i get my first puncture since i got the f*****g thing  which means £84 for a new tyre.

£280 in 9 days and each drive your scared to start the thing incase it blows up

i'm not optimistic about getting the MG on friday as it depends on when the car arrives at the dealer - doesn't mean i won't be keeping my fingers crossed that it gets there by tomorrow :D
