Hi all,

new to this forum, but have been a previous member of the UK PT Cruiser club, and I must say this site looks pretty good !! :D

W have owned our 206CC for approx 4 months now ( wifes car),which is a 51 plate(12.7k miles) . A couple of weeks ago the exhuast starting blowing, so as the car was still under warranty we called the Mansfield dealers ( do you allow names to be mentioned?) and they said as long as it has not been hit or damaged by road humps etc, they would replace it as a good will gesture and booked it in to be done. The better half duely dropped it off and was called later to say 'yes the exhaust needs replacing' ( as the car sounded like a tractor, it did not need Einstein to work that one out ! ) and the cost would be 400 quid
When we said they had agreed to replace it FOC, they denied all knowledge of saying it !
I wrote to Pug customer care ( not ) about this to get what looked like a standard reply ie thanks but no thansk its out of warranty etc etc.

Has anyone else had this sort of non customer care ? what did you do ? did you get anywhere?

any help would be appreciated, and i look forward to meeting you in here and in top down weather !!

Welcome to the board !!! :D :D :D :D :D :D

Re your problem: you won't get anywhere with peugeot direct, they have no interest which is the common experience of this board, therefore its the contract with your local dealer that is important.

Obviously a lot depends on why the exhaust is blowing ie. is it worn out or has it had a knock - if you still have the evidence of the exhaust and not yet repaired then its a fairly straight forward procedure. You can take it down the local exhaust centre for a no obligation quote, get them to ramp it up in your presence and ask to look at the damage whilst seeking their opinion.

If its worn out take it back under the 1979 Sales of Goods Act with a written notice and say the goods are not of merchantable quality/lasted a reasonable amount of time.

If its a knock then its their word against yours as to how and when it became damaged. However there is new EU legislation which came into force recently to protect car buyers (within the last 18 months - sorry but I cannot remember the exact legislation off the top of my head, you may have to google it) this basically reverses the responsibility of a fault of a new or second hand car bought I think within the last 12 months onto the dealer ie placing the onusus on the dealer to prove a fault was not present before sale and not as was previously otherwise.

However if they have already repaired it and thrown the exhaust away you are left with nada, no evidence to work on and a bunch of heresay between you and your dealer which sadly will be it. :(

theres a lot of bad feedback regarding peugeot customer care, i myself give peugeot a 9 out of 10 right now for after sales and am very satisfied (so far) after 6 months from new.

However i needed a dent repaired once and pug quoted me unhappy at £550, some guy down the road did the same job for £200 so i would ask around if they wont do it for free :(

it sounds like the person willing to do out of warranty work for free was sniffing marker pens that day

for a guess it was dixon peugeot in mansfield  i've had my fair share of arguments with them and wrote a nice long letter that the dealership manager read in front of me, his face was a picture by the time he finished  they did buck up their ideas for a while tho.

touch wood i haven't been back to them for anything in the past few months but it still sounds like they are just as bad :(

**just my opinion ;)**

Thanks guys, I am still persuing it with 'customer care' and if need be send the letter to Dixons ! Unfortunatley we git the car trade ( cheryl works for Mercedes and the CC came in part ex for a slk ) so we dont really have much to go back to them on.

thanks again
