Well, after just a few weeks that were dogged by problems I've rejected the 52 2.0 CC that I loved....... before the AA rejected me for rescuing me for overheating, breaking down, and finally putting my roof up manually with half the bits missing.......it was a second hand car, that looked like it had been loved but did I just buy a dud??? I still love them....I look at them when they pass...and want one for the Spring. What would people say? Should I persevere? If so, whats best? Have seen them at places like Motorpoint imports I guess but brand new with all the spec and 2 litres....have a fear of another bag of someone else's trouble if I go for second hand again....or should I pay more and go for a dealer new one?? Are the new ones more reliable?? Help me please dedicated owners! :?:

PS Test drove the 1.8 Tigra CC last week......got undertook by a Transit van at traffic lights. This is NOT a quick car!

hi, sorry to hear about that :(

After 6 months from new my car has had a small leak in the roof, and the common squeaky brakes, but nothing like the problems you're having.
(fingers crossed)

Its a fantastic car, stick with it through the winter... and you'll get your reward for the summer 8)

I think you've just been unlucky, a lot of owners have been pretty problem free, initially i liked the tigra but i still think i prefer the 206cc, i think you should find another one now whilst the prices are lower, afterall the hardtop makes it an all year round car.

Where abouts are ya, i've seen a new 2 ltr for about £13500 in newcastle

Ours has been fine really.
It's had a couple of trips to the :monkey: :monkey: but only minor things.
It really isn't the car that is problematical, it's the skills of the 'people' in the dealership, and I'm not not talking about the :monkey: :monkey:...

Anyway, all makes and models of cars have their Monday morning and Friday afternoon 'specials'!
Just because you're paranoid, it don't mean they're not after you.

Hi everyone thanks for the advice!! :D I think I will get another one - I'm in West Mids so Newcastle probably a bit remote for the new one but thanks for the thought! I agree with the Pug people comments - even finding where the Pug people had parked it in their own car park was a challenge for the ones at my dealer. Its worrying really. Tigra looks OK but can't be doing with the lack of speed...the 206 zips and the Tigra tractors......Any views on imports whilst I'm here?

Looking forwards to the summer.... 8)

Hi
you asked about imports, so I thought I would chuck in my veiws, I bought my wifes 206cc 2.0 SE from Trade sales in Slough having bought my BMW Coupe from them previously.

If you are buying a foriegn car which has a UK spec and you buy from a reputable importer a "UK spec" car you cant go wrong.

we saved about 4k on the dealership price AND they gave us more than the dealer for her old car (yes they do do trade ins! I didnt know either!)

When we picked up the car it had been PDI'd in Belgum so the display was in frogesse but they soon changed that, otherwise just like my Beemer it came with a full handbook and service book in english, all the keys and cards, all the same specs.

Peugeot and BMW have both honoured the warrenties for us although you typically have to lose a year (so 2 instead of 3) but what the heck your saving large amounts up front.

Everyone gets concerned about losing money when you sell but realistically you aren't going to lose as much as you save at the outset and it often makes the difference between buying a brand new car and a 1 year old car anyway.

So I would say go to a reputable importer, and order a UK spec car, Trade sales in Slough had them in stock and we were able to choose the one we took away a couple of days later (it has to be registered just like a dealer)
When the insurance asks if its a UK car be honest, there is no extra premium on eiher of ours as they are UK spec cars.

Finally...... the cars all come from the same place so reliability is exactly the same as it would be if you bought it from a dealer in the UK, I have obviously never had a problem with the Beemer and any niggles we have had with the 206cc have been sorted out under warrenty Or in the case of squeeling brakes sorted out by me!

Hope this helps -

Thanks Robby!! Excellent advice - really appreciated. I had a Puma that was an import 5 years ago - never a problem with it. Glad to know the 206 CC can follow suit......maybe a trip to Slough beckons!!

Lottiefox,

Apart from the 'squeaky brakes' syndrome that seems to affect all CC's until you get the new pads (now fitted and squeak free) My SE has been faultless. I'm selling it (details in the for sale section) if you are interested and would be happy to deliver it if you are not a million miles away.

PM me if you want to have a look at it.

All the best

I work in Slough and I bought my import from... Motorpoint in Derby! Trade Sales just weren't interested - i left them my phone no for them to call me when they had stock - nothing. If they have it in stock, they'll be happy to sell it to you, but don't expect a phone call if you're looking for something special.

So I called Motorpoint and not only were they 2 grand cheaper, but they actually took an interest (and a deposit, more to the point!) and the guy took the trouble to call me once a month until it came in, even though I new I was in for a long wait (ah, the good old days of a 6 month waiting list).

But as for servicing etc - no problems at all, the service depts just want the work as they are paid by Pug UK - they don't care whether it's an import or not.

Hope this helps :)

Just shows you service is everything.... I must admit I did have to hassle trade sales about my first beemer from them but they made amends by registering it in my name as first user!!! which means it only has one owner ... ME! which always looks good on the logbook.

BMW however knew it was an import as soon as they booked it in for a service as the chassis number tells them everything about the car from the bmw worldwide database.

I would say that whatever company is offerring the best price and can be bothered to serve you is the one to go for - as you will never really go back to them for any servicing etc anyway.

Wish the motorcycle market was blessed with such price differentials at bthe moment there is only £400.00 between an official yamaha UK bike and a parralel import which isnt really worth the hassle, maybe I should go and collect one from johnny foreigner myself eh? ;)

Anyone from sunnier climbs want to get me a price on a grey and black Yamaha XT660X :?:

Cheers
