I am a new comer (joined around two days ago) and it looks very much like I am going ahead with buying a 2002 206 automatic convertible.
I was swayed by the purchase as the car is in mint condition, low mileage and the owner had my complete confidence (including that of my partner - private sale).
I would like to hear from other members with automatics.
Thanks for getting a reply back to me....it's just that auto's are rarely mentioned. I have always had a manual and only gone to automatic due to the condtition and price of the car on offer.
No member seems to mention any automatics as having any problems re electrics, call backs etc...j
As it looks like I will be buyng the automatic it is nice to know that some or a few other members have automatics. I will miss being manual but who knows someone may want to purchase one so I can eventually get a manual.
Im supposed to be getting one soon, a 1,6 black in leather with tiptronic etc. Seemed good when I tested one - I was wonderingthe same thing though - why no one mentions them, glad someone else has one / is getting one
I have had automatics for many years because of a back problem and a lot ot town driving. I have an automatic CC that I bought in March 2002 and I am, now, very pleased with it. For the first six mnths I had nothing but trouble. Some of the problms were the same as for other CCs but specifically for the automatic it took six months to sort out a major fault. When travelling in 3rd gear at about 30mph if I tried even gentle acceleration the gearbox went into neutral for several seconds, causing an increase in revs, then socked into 2nd causing a jolt that rocked the car and made me think the bottom was going to drop out. My wife was drinking from a can one time it happened and nearly knocked her front teeth out.
I took it to my dealer and they declared that it was a software problem. They wiped the software but then couldn't reload it because (as it turned out) they had a faulty CD-ROM. It was only when they downloaded the software direct from France by a modem link that I got my car after 6 weeks off the road. The fault was exactly the same! It was only when I took the service manager out and made him drive the car that he agreed that it needed a new gearbox. This was installed and I have not looked back. You should check this when you test drive.
The auto box is more sophisticated than any other I have driven. It senses how you want to drive on any occasion and behaves accordingly, sportingly if you are feeling sporty and gently if not. With relaxed acceleration it changes from 2nd to 3rd at about 25mph, 3rd to 4th at about 35. But if you are pressing on a bit, it stays in a low gear until it reaches higher speeds. If you are going up or downhill it also stays in a lower gear to provide better acceleration or engine braking, which is good if you are travelling in hilly country. There is a Winter setting which starts the car in 2nd and I think changes up at slightly lower speeds. This is intended for icy conditions but is also handy in traffic as the car doesn't strain at the brakes so much. I'm not keen on the Sport setting but I expect it suits some people. I'm not used to going along at 70mph in 2nd gear! I do change quite a lot from D to 3rd gear, especially at roundabouts and it responds quickly and takes me smoothly through them.
I have always believed that you can get just as much fun from an automatic as long as you realise that just because it's an automatic gearbox it doesn't mean you don't have to change gear yourself sometimes. I thoroughly recommend the CC Auto and am surprised they are not more popular. Hope this helps.
