Car went into dealer to find out how it was using too much oil - they said the gearbox seal was leaking so they replaced it - don't ask me what that has to do with engine oil but i'm sure peugeot master technicians know what they are doing......
Car goes back in today for two days as their first fix surprisingly did not work.
Message on answer phone asking me to call them........
Yes it's Derek Sneddon here, I have a message to phone you.......
Yes, you require a new engine and it won't be done under warranty as you removed the inner wheel arch guard.
Oh yes I say, I did remove it as it was damaged and you ordered a new one a few months ago and everytime I ask if it's in I get told it's still on order.
Oh er oh er oh emm yes, I will need to speak to the master technician and will phone you back tomorrow.
So we will watch this space - the now I have been looking at buying a normal 206 (new) as a 2nd car and will be getting a 307CC in March 2005 - do you think I still will if they don't fit a new engine under warranty ? I don't !
Trouble !!! - Watch This Space.....

Some cars have a shared system whereby the engine and gearbox both use the engine oil (i.e. there's no separate gearbox oil).Car went into dealer to find out how it was using too much oil - they said the gearbox seal was leaking so they replaced it - don't ask me what that has to do with engine oil but i'm sure peugeot master technicians know what they are doing......

I guess they're trying to say that the missing wheel arch guard has caused something (stone, branch etc) to get thrown up and damage the engine in someway. If its the Dealers fault that it hasn't been fitted then you should be able to blame them and get them to fix it at their expense. Good luck.

long story short is that dirt has got into engine. i wouldn't be as mad but the guy at the dealer is denying that they ever did work relating to this on the car on 28th May.
blatant lies but he is doing nothing but protecting his own incompetence.
took car to ecosse today when i got it back and it is getting checked over next wednesday so see the extent of damage and what they can do about it.
i would be interested matt but i can't sell the car privately due to the situation but i may looking at flogging it to a dealer and down size to a basic 206 for the 2nd car.
plans afoot for the 307CC 180 in march but it will be an import - what have i got to lose
:
the dealer gave me a quote for a new engine at £3053 - he actually believed that i wanted the quote for them to do the work after what he has done but i only wanted it incase of any future legal action.
once he handed the quote over i told him i had no intention of gettng them to do it and could get it done cheaper elsewhere.
the dealer has been good to me over the past year but i can't stand a blatant liar which this guy is - i'm sure he knows the truth. the dealership are either covering up for him or do not know what they have working for them.
get this - his title is SENIOR service and he claimed today that he has never heard of an inner wheel arch guard and i had never asked him to order one. work it out for yourself

That's really not good - I wish peoiple would take responsibility for their actions in cases like this. A similar thing happened to me - took my 106 in as the front disks had warped. They replaced the disks under warranty.
The second I drove it out the garage that night I heard a jingling sound. I had rear mudflaps fitted at same time so assumed it was a lose washer or something.
However, 2 mins later my left wheel jammed when I was going over a hill over Ilkley Moor. I managed to slide to the side of the road without falling off the moor or hitting anyone and found that the muppets hadn't tightened the calliper bolts on that side - they had just put them in by hand and forgotten to tighten them.
The garage refused point blank to admit that they even removed the bolts - they even showed me that they can change the disks without removing the bolts and insinuated that I undid the bolts myself after driving out of the garage!
The mechanic who did this still works there...

Derek,
I was talking to my hubby about your problem, and he is puzzled as to why the engine needs replacing just because the arch guard was missing. He say’s…..
I assume the arch guard that was missing, is the LH side where the air intake is. Even so the engine should not ingest any dirt because of the air filter. If the air filter was missing then dirt would get into the engine causing damage to the valve guides & cylinders walls resulting in the engine burning oil. Does the engine burn oil?
Or does the engine loose oil i.e. puddles on the ground?
Something does not ring true here.
I’m not familiar with this particular engine, however a defective gearbox seal does not justify an engine change. I’ll have a look under our cc’s bonnet when we get it back.
A colleague of mine goes rallying with a 2.0L 306 and all the unnecessary bits including arch guards etc have been stripped out to save weight or for access. So you can imagine the dirt that gets into the engine bay after ploughing through forest tracks & fields.
Ian.
