1st question.. is it a 1.6 or 2.0?
Problem could be caused by a few things..
1. Fouled Injector/s or faulty injector/s
2. Dirty throttle body around the throttle flap/plenum
3. Defective MAP sensor "Manifold Absolute Pressure"
4. Defective Stepper Motor/or stepper motor seal dirty
5. Defective engine speed sensor
6. Defective upstream Lambda sensor
there are more but thats a start..

Yes different fuel can help.. With the wet weather, water in the fuel can cause similar problems..
As Can "OLD" fuel.. ie, petrol does have a "sell by" date.. as the octane rating gradually drops of the older it is..

i remember years ago (11) when i had a renault it cut out everytime i stopped. someone said it would be water in the petrol, so i drove around until it was quite empty and filled up again and all was ok.

Thing is the 206 ECU is overly sensitive and if there was water in the tank
the "K" light would illuminate pretty quick and show "misfire" or "fuel Trim" fault codes..
But yes it is a possibility..
Phonic does it also feel sluggish to accelerate at the same time?

no, the acceleration seems to of been consistantly ok since I had the car.
I think the best thing is to make a list of the things you guys say it could possibly be and have it checked out.
Do you think I should take it back to where I got it from to be looked at, or take it to an official peugeot dealer though?

When I first picked my car up from new last week I noticed the same things as you. I THINK as the week has gone one it has become less noticeable but it is going in on Tues and I will mention it to them.

I spoke at length with a Master Tech from Peugeot about this and a few other "common" problems..
But basically they have a tech note that describes Lumpy idle particularly when cold in the 2.0 EW10J4 engine..
The possible cure for this is to replace ALL of the "Lash" adjusters, also known as Hydraulic tappets..
Its a 4 hour job.. Ok if you still have warranty but If you don't it will cost about £450 in parts alone.. = 16 Lash adjusters & Cambelt kit..
Its worth speaking the Zoo about this and see if they are prepared to do it..

Thanks for info. I took car in today to get it booked to find out whats wrong, and mentioned that it could be the lashes thingies you mentioned, so 21st March is when its going in, and all under manufacturers warranty still PHEW !!. They said they hook it up to diagnose it, but Im worried that even that won't show anything wrong, they need to drive the bloody thing to see the problem. Ill let you know the outcome.
PS: got em to fix my CD player too when it goes in cos it doesnt always play my CDs and spits em back out at me

Mine went in today for some stuff sorting and this was the only thing they could not find.
They said that they had done a full test and I had the lastest software.
They suggested that as I have only done 500 miles that it might disappear as I do more miles.
It still did it on the way home so I will have to keep an eye on it.
Having said that my partner has driven it a lot and has not noticed it either.
