I've spent three quarters of the day fiddling with the stereo with no result. :-(

I have managed to get EVERY other bloody wire sorted out for what I thought would be a basic installation of an AMP, I am COMPLETELY stumped as to which wire (from the back of the stereo) is the ignition wire. My test light didn't reveal anything to me! It did suggest a few of the speaker wires, though!

The diagram from the Owner's Manual was somewhat confusing too. It seems to be upside down and a mirror image of what is actually there.

Can anybody tell me which wire I should be looking at for ignition power in ?

The system is standard and is a Clarion. The car has a built date of 07/03.

HELP!!!!

Michael

Ignition wire is a bit of a pain as it doesn't exist!

Your best bet is to take it from the cigarette lighter - just run a thick wire from the cig lighter positive, underneath the gearstick, behind the fascia and up to the back of the radio.

Thanks Mattb for your advice. I realised today that you'd also posted some clues in a reply to a previous post of mine on this subject.

However, this is bizarre, in the end my installation didn't need the ignition cable after all !

It's all working without the ignition cable connected. It powers on/off when I turn the radio on/off !

It's an MTX amp. In the manual there was a small paragraph that mentioned some feature whereby the ignition wire was not required, but it didn't go into any detail.

Now that I have the amp working, I'm not satisfied with the bass in the pioneer 6" 220w 4ways that I put in the front. They just don't seem to have the range.

I've kept my original head unit. Should my next step a sub woofer ?
Cheers,
Michael

yeah a 10" or 12" sub in a subbox in the boot gives ya good bass :D

make sure the box doesn't go higher than the roll screeny thingy in the boot or you won't be able to get the roof down ;)

As Lyndon says, a sub in the boot is the next step. You won't get any decent bass out of the door speakers no matter what speakers you put in there - simply because the door enclosures aren't designed to handle decent bass.

Thanks guys,

A sub is the only item on my list of things to do.

Althoguh, I suspect that list will grow a little longer after our Sydney CC Meet sometime in March when I've seen what everyone else has done to theirs !

Michael
