Hi, Can anyone give me some idea's? I have a 12inch sub (JL Audio 12W3v2) in an Auto Acoustics stealth box, which rattles too much for my liking.
Is it a case of sound proofing or should I replace the sub with one more suited to the volume of the box? (0.75cu ft) Any idea's on subs which be great for some seriously LOUD hip hop.
how'd ya means rattles ?
if it's moving to much does it need screwing down ? I dont mean that to be a stupid question, i just tend to suffer the same with mine !

Hi, I had a look at it and it seems to be the boot lid rattling with certain bassy tracks, not so much the sub. Which sounds crap from the outside. How would you go about sound proofing the boot lid?
Also, what would you recommend to make it louder? Another sub or a bigger amp? (200RMS at the mo).
Sound proofing is a cheap and effective way of both improving the the quality of the bass and the loudness. Ive sound proofed my car for under £30 and it makes a definate improvement but only if you've uprated the speakers. It usually comes in the form of thin rubber-like adhesive sheets that you stick on panels liable to rattle or just to improve the acoustics of the the car.
Due to the boot lids' underside being just thin metal, it acts like a conducter and the bass passes easily though it as rattles.
I had this problem until i lined it myselve, now the bass is significantly clearer and appears louder.
I used a cheaper version of dynamat, which is the really expensive stuff you find in Halfords,as they're principally the same just shop around.
The stuff I used was called 'brown bread ' i think and it was half the price of the other stuff.
If you've got a bass box its essental that the flimsy boot lid is done.
If the problem is the boot lid vibrating- then this is my top tip for the day.
Get some clear silicon sealer and seal under the two boot lid skin panel edges. Leave some gaps though! (Basicly I found that the two metal skins of the boot panel vibrate at certain frequencies making an annoying tiny sound at higher volumes.) It only costs a fiver and took about 3 minutes.
The number plate lamp fixings can also vibrate. Unclick the back-carpeted panel. I packed the problematic area with packaging material. Be careful as the boot locking solenoid is in the same area and you do not want to obstruct the mechanism.
You should find that the sub sound much better and less distorted. You should also be able to increase the volume. The best benefit I found was outside the car the sub sound much more intimidating.
