Hi all
Just been told by monkeys that after complaining about brakes sqealing again that my rear pads and discs need changing. I have only done 8000 miles and don't drive that crazy? Am i right to think this is a bit of a short life? Also wouldn't my front ones also be roughly the same? Of course it is wear and tear and i have to pay, so thought i would see what you lot think.
They also said that they could do nothing for the fronts ones sqeaking as they already had replacement pads. All they could do is put a treatment on it that would only last me a couple of months and charge me for it!!!!
Is it time to change garage or is this right?
Cheers
New rear pads and discs at 8000 miles?

Do they need changing because they're worn out or because they squeak?
The pads should not wear out before 8000 miles and the disks shouldn't wear out for 10s of thousands of miles unless they get damaged by worn pads. I'd definitely go to another garage for a second opinion, or even take it to Kwik Fit as I believe they offer a free brake check.
I think the front brakes should actually wear out before the rear - cars are usually setup so the front brakes perform more braking than the rear so that the back end doesn't lock and lose control if you brake heavily on a corner. I may be wrong on this though. If I am correct then the car has obviously been maintained/built badly by the dealer and should be a warranty issue.
Not sure about the front squeaky brakes though if they've already been replaced by non-squeak ones

can't see them wearing out that quick. when i had my 20k service my back ones must have been fine but they said the front ones only had another 3 or 4k miles left on them - eventually got round to getting them changed today at Ecosse - i got another 12k miles out of them

It could be a seized handbrake cable or incorrectly adjusted handbrake.
As the others have already said. The front pads go first. The Disks should be good for at least two sets of pads.
The only other explanation is that at some point someone has driven your car without releasing the handbrake. If you can guarantee this hasn’t happened then yes you should change garages.
