Our CC is getting a little low on oil and needs a top up. I'm usually not keen on mixing different oil weights, but more importantly mixing synth/semi-synth/mineral.
Does anyone know whether it comes from the factory with synthetic or semi-synthetic? I have some Redline 5W/30 fully synth -- will that be OK to top up with?
What oil do the factory put in?

Well it's not the quality of the oil that's an issue (actually Redline is better than Mobil because it has polyol ester base stocks
), more of its compatability with the existing stuff. The only reason I want to use the Redline is that I have a US quart of it which I use for filling up the TVR.

That means I'll have to drain and refill with fully synth -- I can't just add the fully synth. It's a year old now (13k miles) so I reckon that despite what the manual says it's due an oil change. Its filled with 10W40 Semi.. as standard

I used to use Castrol RS 10W60 in the Impreza. Good for turbocharged engines (they knock the stuffing out of oil) but isn't it a bit thick for a normally-aspirated engine?
The other good oils are Motul 300V 15W/50 and any of the Redline or Amsoil ones. TVR dealer told me they fill the car with 5W/30 Shell Racing oil (which I can't get hold of) and Redline was the only one I could find that came in 5W/30. Seems a bit thin to me, but according to the blurb it's high-quality composition offers the same protection as other oils that are thicker

Magnatec's semi-synthetic though, at least in the UK...In Brisbane our dealer supplied it and fills it with Castrol Magnetec when servicing, they even reccomend it an insert in the manual.in AU pug advertised as using Mobil 1 (fully synthetic). I stick with that when i need to top up myself.
