Am I allowed to put a DVD player WITH screen in the front of the car for the missus to watch? Someone here at work says it's illegal and the police will nab me!!

Any ideas?

yep it's legal to do it, but it has to be in a position where the driver can not see it. if you go for a dvd headunit most of them can be hoocked up so that they know how fast the car is going and wont display an image over a certain spped.
so it's illegal to watch dvds whilst driving, but not illegal to have the dvd head unit. course if you got pulled over i'm not sure that the defence of my wife was watching officer not me would count for much. unless you get a visor mounted screen like I'm running in the supra.

Hi Paul
I did post a question on if anyone had fitted these type of DVD screens to there car.
I have seen some on ebay for example where you get the 2 screens (with the visor) and the DVD unit for around £300, but i cant find anyone who can give me an example of how they have fitted them.
I did when i was in Warrington ask a fitter (who has fitting CD and DVD players to my brothers MG and Merc) but he said that he had never fitted the sun-visor screens to any car before and that he would fit them for me, but as he as never done it before i am 50/50 as to let him do it.
He did say that because of the location of the screen there is a conection between the DVD unit and your hand brake that means that when the hand brake is down the screens will not work. This is were the law comes in to play, you can as i was told just not fit this conection.
Paul.
If you know where i can have these fitted by someone who has do it before it would help and if you can when you have fitted yours post some pictures on the forum.

hi mate,
when i finish mine i will post it up. But you need to bear in mind that i dont own a cc any moer. Mine a toyota supra. To be honest I'm not sure a visor screen would be too practical in a cc as it would be rather nickable once the roof is down.
That said its just a case of relpancnig the current visor and then running the lines down to the dvd unit. worst part of the job would be taking the car apart to hide the cables. i hate doing that bit lol.
