I´ve had this problem for a while now and my dealer dosn´t seem to be able to fix it. I get this noise when changing gear, most noticable then changing to 2nd gead at pretty low rev... sometimes also when starting on 1st gear, as well as changing to other gears.

Anyone with the same problem?

It´s a 2001 2.0 by the way...

Does it clunk when you just get it into gear??

The box on my 19k GTi feels dodgy at times. 3rd gear syncro has been replaced but i still get the odd noise from it.

As long as it changes smoothly and doesn't grate then i wouldn't worry about it.

Yep it´s at the same moment as I release the clutch I hear the sound.

Never while driving on rough road, around corners or anything.

But it really bothers me since it feels lite something is loose... anyway, I´ve contacted the main dealer here in Sweden and hope that they will help me.

Hi
did you get your clunk sorted out?
I have recently noticed that when I release the clutch in first gear to move off it clunks - a bit like something is becoming "unstuck"

I have also noticed recently that when I switch on the heated rear window button I can hear a "click" along the drivers side of the car (presumably along where the wires run)

Its all very strange - maybe I should just turn up the stereo volume!
regards
Flo

I think the gearbox sounds normal to me.
As long as it will change gear smoothly as high revs/speed then the synchros are ok.
Also as long as it doesn't jump out of gear then i wouldn't worry about it.

Give the car a decent hard run and get it warmed up, then the chances are you'll forget about the gearbox completely as it's actually quite nice once it warmed up.

The gearbox is a major let down on the GTi and CC. Mine has had 3rd gear synchro replaced and is soon to get the 5th gear synchro changed.
I really don't know how a manufacturer can make such a loose lumpy gearbox these days.

The rear window click is probably the relay behind the dash.
You'll probably notice a click after a while again as it switches the heated window off automatically after a bit.

I've had exactly the same problem with my cc. Only had it three months :( Took it to local dealer who kept it for a day then said it was an engine mount and they would need to order the part! Thought that sounded a bit odd but hey i'm a woman wot do i know so i took it back and they fitted it and wot do you know it still clunked! Not impressed! Took it back again they then decided it was a split suspension bush and the bush and suspension arm needed replacing! Which incedently was not covered by the warenty! Another day in the garage and £180 later guess wot? I pick it up today and it's still clunking! Going back tomorrow morning to have a complete hissy fit in their showroom! They aint got a scooby wot's wrong with it!

Makes you wonder whether those parts were actually faulty - how would you know if symptonless (as clunking was nothing to do with these parts)? I would like to assume they check parts that are changed before charging?

Yeah i was wondering if there was actually a problem with these parts or if they were just changing them because they did'nt know wot else to do! even if there was a problem with the suspension bush there was obviously a fault with it cos surley they're supossed to last longer than a year! But getting the monkies at Peugeot to admit to this is another thing! I Don't even know wot the suspension has to do with it. It's a problem with the gear change! But it seems to go in one ear and out the other! It's going back in tomorrow to have the suspension bushes on the other side changed even though there was no play in it cos the chief monkey thought it was worth a try! Not holding out much hope! Really at a loss now don't know what to do!

Hi All

Just enquiring whether anyone has found out what this clunking noise may be???

Ive recently been having a clunking noise from the front right hand side of the car when driving over a rough/bumpy road. (seems when the suspension is extended)

Took it to dealer whom said it was engine mounts, they replaced these and it still does makes the noise. Now they telling me its the gearbox?

Could anyone let me know if they have similar problem and what it may be :)

Cheers
John

Some front wishbone bushes have been known to be dodgy on some 206's...
