Whilst at the dealers today there was a 2.0SE with about 7K on the clock. Its engine had fell out and stuck its conrods through the bottom end (
They were just fitting the new engine as I left - will keep you updated as always

Whilst driving my 3 week old car along at 40mph, the computer management system said "ABS Failure" and the engine and electrics cut out. I managed to stop the car, tried to restart but black smoke came out of the bonnet. The garage reckons that the Starter motor shorted, causing the problem. Has anyone had any problems like this, or have heard of a starter motor overloading the EMS, and cutting the engine out?

My starter motor died after 21.5 miles, they think it is the battery shorting out via the starter motor. I hope that is all it is, as until they fit the new starter they cannot see if there is any other cause.
The problem you will soon find out is there are no starter motors in the country. I have been waiting since the 22nd Dec for one and they still cannot even tell me if it is in the country or not. They have to Fax!! France to find out and France don't seem to be faxing back. I have contacted peugeot UK today and hopefully they will get back in contact with me and tell me when I can get a starter motor, as I would dearly love to drive my car.
Hope for both of us they find 2 spare starter motors on a shelf somewhere.

They managed to get hold of a new starter motor within a day. They have now fitted it and I've got the car back, although I was pretty disappointed about their explaination about the cause of the failure. They believe that the starter motor shorted and caused a power surge, knocking out the ABS and the EMS. I've taken it for a spin and it seems ok, but I've lost quite a lot of confidence in the car...

On 2nd Jan, exactly the same problem as Gordo. ABS Failure, smoke from under bonnet etc.... Also the car deadlocked itself (worrying)........
Starter motor shorted, this has been replaced, but it also blew the BSI main fuse box. Still waiting for repair and could be another 2 weeks yet..... Not happy...
This is on top of the Electric Windows failing (back 2 times to fix), Rear Demister failing, Scratch on dashboard on delivery.
The car is 2 months old and has nearly spent more time at Peugeot than at home......

Just been talking to the guys at Navtrak in Manchester and one of the women in the office has also had a melting fuse box - thats not your other half is it Stu ??
I hope so as this would mean only 2 melting as opposed to 3 (you know what I mean)

Hi Will, Sorry for the delay in Replying, I'm based near Reading. I'm suprised you had problems with getting new parts as the Starter motor is exactly the same as the GTI version. They got one for me within a day.On 2002-01-09 18:24, will wrote:
are you in the UK, and if so where abouts. They may have another one available. Worth a try.
Hope yours runs like a dream now.

Derek,
Surprised to see you haven't rejected your CC yet. Mine came back last week and the weather over the week-end here was fab!! - spent all day out with the roof down, went to clean it on sunday morning (with normal garden hose, no pressure attatchments etc) and not only did the driver side leak but also the passenger side - the driver side door which they said they had adjusted had also dropped again which meant the door wouldn't shut properly, also went shopping and the boot wouldn't open. The car was collected this morning and a full refund plus charges and interest has been paid. All this was done through the dealer - we had most joy with the head of the dealership.
Good Luck

Caro,
I'm due to get the car back on Wednesday or Thursday as they eventually got the seals.
They know it will be rejected if it isn't 100%. Still trying to decide whether i will take replacement or refund as at the end of the day, i need a car.
