Anyone here?

I was driving carefully obeying the speed limit because I was running out of petrol and had no idea where the next petrol station was!

I wondered if that would make sense!

What I meant was I was in the inside lane trying to look out for any "SERVICES" signs!
Oh and what I haven't worked out is this...

(Someone mentioned it when we had the petrol crisis)
They said they were driving slowly everywhere in order to save petrol.
Surely though the journey would take longer thus using more petrol!?
If you drive faster, yes you are using more petrol but then you get there quicker!?

Am I rambling?

Its due to the amount of fuel you need to overcome the wind resistance, i believe Stephen is right as at about that speed it takes very little fuel and the car is carried mainly by its own momentum (unless your going on hill), i'm just trying to prove i learnt something in A-Level physics really ;)

A constant* slow speed gives the best fuel consumption but you obviously need a road where you won't get stopped (no juntions, traffic lights, etc). Here's the consumptions for a 1500 Spitfire

30mph 59.7mpg
40mph 55.6mpg
50mph 50.6mpg
60mph 44.9mpg
70mph 37.0mpg
80mph 32.3mpg
90mph 28.0mpg

So yes, if low on fuel, slow down a bit! Cheers

Jason

*Constant is OK on a flat road but you want to allow for a bit of slowing down on the hills and speeding up on the downhills.

depends what the amount of revs you are doin........ 50mph in 2nd will consume alot more fuel than 50mph in 5th ;)

My 306 DTurbo would go 550 Miles on a tank of Derv compared to the 360 I get out of mine sometimes. I tend to average between 38 - 40 mpg unless the Aircon is on
