I heard Peugeot tried to get into the US and failed!

Anything related to the 206CC

Someone here says Peugeot tried to secure a market in the US -- and basically the US blimin' hated pugs!

They sold near on zero -- then after a year or two gave up on the country altogether!

Anyone know if my mate who told me this is speaking the truth? Why do you think they did so badly in the US?

I don't know of any official reason, but when I was out there it's obvious that Americans like ridiculously big cars. The number of 4x4s out there is staggering!

That counts out the 106, 206 and 306 instantly.

Well Colombo drove a pug

When i was browsing ebay.com lately there are many ferrari's, lambo's, rol'ls royces, volkswagen etc... etc.. And there are exactly 6 pugs (all pre 1995) to find over there so i think that says enough :?

4x4s pickups minivans SUV ar all classed as trucks in US so have to meet same emission and fuel economy standards as lorries which are lower than cars. I guess this makes them cheeper.

The reason for this I believe is a consession on some international enviromental agreement. Which suprises me as I thought yanks ignored these anyway. I counldn,t find any confirmation of this on the web though. I believe California is trying to ban SUVs.

Yeah i lived there for six years and never saw a pug at all. Infact when i returned to South Africa in 2002 that was the first time i had ever seen a 206cc and ofcourse the rest is history.....
