Just out of interest - I don't currently have a spare, but I have this nagging thought I should have "just in case", being conscious that using tyre-weld ruins the tyre so you need another.

But it occured to me that in 20 years driving I have probably had four punctures, all of which were deemed unrepairable, requiring a new tyre, so tyre-weld isn't as much of an issue as it seems. Or have I just been lucky :)

I must admit for long journeys a spare is peace of mind, but is it expensive peace of mind?

Well I must be Miss Un-Jammy, Think I've had about 5 punctures in 5 years, as well as numerous other problems (although that was mainly with the Tigra)..... cylinder head gasket being the most expensive at a drastic £900. Sometimes wonder whether I should have kept the mini...... Got 4 brand new Continental tyres, fitted, balanced and tracked for £60. Although the poor guy nearly got fired the next day when his boss found out!!!

R.I.P Humbug, he was being held together with electric tape and an elastic band and a beer matt when I sold him but he was a corking little car! And for £15 per tyre you can't go wrong!

It ios quite easy to repair them as long as not to close to the sidewall.
Dont get Kwik fit to do it.

I used a mobile service from one of the leading names - shame the guy only remembered to torque up the locking wheelnut and not the other 3.

Luckily I realised something wasn't right and pulled over before anything serious happened

For those living around Swindon. There is a guy who repairs tyres in South Marston. I believe he can do close to the sidewalls so long as it has not torn more than 3 of the sidewall threads. They are well worth a go. He uses a tyre welding technique rather than those mushroom fillings.

Directions: From Swindon head to the South Marston club. Just past the club on the play area side there is a very bumpy dirt track. Go to the end and you should see a shack with tyres covering it. That your place!

I know tyre repairs are not ideal, but its safer than having slow punctures and/or nails in your tyres. and costs about 10-15% of a new Goodyear F1 tyre

In the first 6 months of having my CC I got 3 punctures! Used the tyre weld shit on em all and no where would repair it! Tried loads ah places but no1 was interested! Told me it was too much hassle and that tyre weld ruins the inside of the tyre! :(

If you do decide to take the wheel off be very careful if your using the jack supplied by Peugeot. The alloy rim "freezes" to the hub and you have to give it quite a pull to get it off,and my CC nearly fell off the jack, use a proper trolley jack if you can.

I got a nail in my Offside rear tyre back in January. Lost about 10psi and noticed it in the tread block about half way across. Repaired for a tenner

I've also had a puncture this week and was not so lucky and needed a new tyre. That's my third puncture. The second one I was ripped off big style by ATS, David had to pay £147.00 for a new tyre  I was only charged £95.00 from Kwik fit last week

Had similar nightmares with tyres, yet to have a puncture that could be repaired. Both times was split in the tyre wall (inside edge) and just sprayed the can of foam over the road as it p***ed out the hole!

Also had major problems getting one wheel off, it had totally stuck itself to the hub. Axle stands to hold the car and a jimmy bar to prise it off! Suggest anyone else who changes a wheel puts come copper grease on first, make it much easier next time.

Good garages do......but not them :mfight:
