This is a computer related work problem that i need help with, I had a Windows 2000 machine with a system partition on C and a data partition which was D, i then stupidly reimaged the machine then created the logical drive D for data and formatted it, now i find out that the owner had left stuff on the data drive that they had not backed up, can anyone recommend a good file recovery program and how much of the data am i likely to get back?

PLEASE HELP

Thanks

You could try & get hold of Partition Magic - I believe that can do something like recover files after a quick format.

Or do a search on google for something like "disk format recover" and some tools come up.

You're never completely doomed as long as you haven't written any data to the drive and you haven't physically destroyed it. If you can't recover the data yourself using undelete or unformat tools, you can send it off and pay a shedload to have the data recovered (if it's important enough).

It is more the timescale they need it in that rules out sending it away, data shouldn't have been written over the top on the partition was formated

I believe that http://www.ontrack.co.uk have a free application you can download to determine whether the data's recoverable. Obviously you have to pay them to actually recover the data.
