I figured that the service spanner thingie countdown would be reset at service by the PUG dealer,
Reading through the owners manual tonight, (Yes Bored!), there it gives quick and simple instructions on how to reset it yourself with a simple key press sequence, unlike most cars that are reset at service on the diagnostic computer,!,
Is it me or does this defeat the object of it  , surly the spanner reminder is to nag you into getting the car to the dealer for a service, if you can overide it with a simple key push to reset it seems odd,

I thought they had forgot to do it on my last 206 after the free inspection, so reset it. I think the point is that diagnostic computers are not technically required to service the car - if you want to get it done by some back alley cowboy, or service it yourself then you need to be able to reset the spanner manually.

mine had been on since i bought the car new (i've now just had my 20000 mile service lol) and a friend of mine just happened to mention that it would affect my fuel consumption and you know what? he was right, i manually reset it as the manual says, and my petrol costs have halved!!!!!!

i dunno, but he said apparently the computer thinks there is something wrong and will over compensate in some way.....beleive me i was shocked too!!! imagine how much petrol i have over used in the last year and a half!!!!! bloody peugeot should have turned it off at the beginning!! they had a second chance when i had the first service at least, but no, and then at the 20000 mile service? no !! damn monkeys lol

never heard of that before, it's only meant to advise u of when the service is due, not affect the running of the car - or so i thought

no, mine is a multiplex
explanation from 'in-the-know-person' below:
"okies then here is why...... the spanner is a service indicator and is activated by the ecu.... the ecu live maps the engine at all times keeping peak performance and fuel consumption.... but when the service interval comes on the ecu stops live mapping and goes into a default state with the presumption that the engine is in need of a service or something is wrong ... basically it is a way of the engine trying to protect itself..... so with the engine not being in a peak performance state it uses more fuel than if it were in the peak state......"
dont mean much to me but hey

Hi
would have to disagree with you on that, the spanner on the 206cc is not linked to the ECU (Like some cars where the service interval is detemined by how hard you drive the engine and the type of driving), it is not even linked to the calender like a fiat one that indcates days to service as well as miles remaining
the 206 one is nothing more than a reverse trip counter that is set at 20000 and counts down in reverse until the time it is reset, so I cannot see how it could be having any effect on your engine performance
