C'mon...I gotta know...who is "the Stig", Top Gears mysterious black-helmeted test driver?

I've already counted out Damon Hill, Tiff Needell, any rally driver, Mansell, Jenson Button and Rik waller from Pop Idol, so who is it? Here are my theories...

1. Kelvin Burt (Formula One pace car driver)

2. Mark Blundell

3. Martin Brundle

Anyone have any other ideas?

I too have heard it is Perry McCarthy who is also known as "the world's unluckiest racing driver".

As you can see, 8 grand prix's entered and his best qualifying result was 29th!

And the big question - why aren't they telling anyone who it is? It makes sense to be someone not very good/lucky.

Hmmm, only just read this one!

I used to work for Haynes and just before I left we launched Perry McCarthy's autobiography (which involved spending ages with Perry!) and he is good mates with quite a few of the other drivers you've listed, so I'll send him an email and ask him and answer your question once and for all!!! :D

Would Damon Hill have that awful music the Stig sometimes puts on when he's in the car :yuck:

Like Ben I assumed it was Stig Blomqvist, but if it is any of the above race drivers, I hope it is Perry McCarthy.
With the exception of Martin Brundle I have raced against all of them and the only one I have any respect for is Mr McCarthy. He is an awesome driver and deserved to go all the way to the top. As for that Blundell bloke, well I better not say what I think.
