Hi guys!
is there a way to connect the IPod (the MP3 player from Apple) to the Clarion CD player of the 206CC?
In my boyfriend BMW we use a tape adaptor (the tape that has a connector to attach the Ipod to it), but the Peugeot player has got no tape...maybe there is a socket somewhere...? any ideas?

it's basically a device that takes the sound from the ipod
and puts it through the fm radio
so you tune your radio to a certain frequency
and you hear the ipod
There's a new bit of kit from Dension which allows you to directly wire the iPod into the head unit. It then lets you control the iPod from the steering wheel column, which is pretty cool. It's no good if you've already got a CD changer though.
My boss at work has an iTrip. He says it works OK so long as you don't travel far.
The way it works is by transmitting the music from the iPod on a frequency (which you select) which can be received by any standard FM tuner.
If you travel any distance, here's where the problem arrises. You select a frequecy that is clear when you get in your car at home. (you need a clear frequency otherwise your car stereo will receive the transmitting radio station as well!) You travel, say 20 - 30 miles and in that distance you can start to come into range of radio stations that you couldn't receive when you were on your drive. This then plays havoc with your sound quality and you have to change the frequency of the iTrip and FM Tuner.
No big problem but a bit teadious if you have to keep changing the frequency. Of course, if you don't travel far then you will not experience this. but you will not get the digital quality music that you experience from the iPod itself as you are transmitting it via an analogue link (your FM tuner)
I read somewhere that these aren't legal in the UK, which is why you don't see them in shops, only on the internet (from overseas sites)
Something to with UK broadcasting regulations. In the UK, all of the frequencies are already allocated to someone and those people pay for a licence to use that frequency. So you would be broadcasting your tunes from your ipod to your ICE on a frequency 'belonging' to someone else. Kinda like pirate radio!
Don't know how you would get 'done' for using one, unless you happened to pick a frequency that interferes with someone 'legit' in your local area, or you live close to a large transmitter/booster (which could in effect broadcast your tunes across the nation) resulting in the authorities sending a triangulation van ...

You are quite correct, they are illegal in this country but like you say, wether you would get done or not is another matter
as far as the legality of the itrip is concerned.... you need a license to broadcast an FM signal in this country, the itrip however only has a range of about 10m and so although technically illegal, no-one will really give two hoots... besides, most people won't even know what it is.
and if finding a good signal is your worry then there are websites out there that detail what are the best frequencies for each part of the country. i live in birmingham and travel between there and london frequently and i use 107.3FM without trouble. it takes a bit of playing but it is the best on the market.
if you need one.... ebay.co.uk is the best place but make sure you get the right version for either original ipod or the newer (dock) ipod

Dom what is the website you mentioned for radio frequencies?
I got an itrip for my 3G ipod a couple of months ago and have been trying to get it to work ever since. I just can't find any stations that get the thing to work! I am glad I foudn this website as I see that there are actually people out there who have itrips in the UK! I read some of the frequencies in the list from the link above, but I was wondering if anoyone knows any frequencies that work specifically in Leicester
I have tried a most frequencies, especially ones which appear to be quiet. The lower frequencies such as 88-90 have an effect in that I can hear a loud screeching sound when the itrip locks on to a frequency. So something is happening but I don't know what! I tried 107.3 but the same problem hapenned. Do you ever get that high pitched sound?
