I'll keep this short or i'll be here all night ........
when i got my 1st CC in dec 2001 i put my personal plate on retention from my old 206. i got the dealer to do it to save any hassle.
as i was getting fixed penalty notices from the dvla (passed to zoo for them to pay) for my old car being on the road or something but not registered i knew they had made a mess of the retention.
they kept on saying the dvla were slow with the paperwork which i believed at the time to be blatant lies as it normally takes only a few weeks at most.
eventually i got the paperwork in june 2001 for the plate from the dealer and it has someone elses name and address on it (the person who bought my last 206 probably). they must have got the certificate like this so added myself as a nominee (for my OWN plate) thinking that would be ok.
i told the after sales manager (colin smart) at the time that there was a problem but i never got round to taking it into them until this week.
let's just say they don't have a clue what they are doing. blatant lies from colin smart and then general manager at the time jim mabon during the time i was waiting on the paperwork are evident but they don't like to admit how incompetent they have been i expect.
they thought they had a get out clause today when they asked me what i intended doing with the plate as they expected me to say i was going to assign it to a car. i told them that i intend to put it up for sale so they are away to think again - obviously they will probably need to assign it to one of their own vehicles and then try and put it back on retention under my name and address like they should have done in the first place.
i will await their next move over the next 3 days. if they can't sort it quickly then i'll drop the nice attitude and take my next move.
just thought i would recommend the service of them as follows:
Arnold Clark, Lochrin Place, Tollcross, Edinburgh, EH3 9QN.
Sales: Excelllent as they just want your money anyway
After Sales Service: Debatable
Service Dept: Very Incompetent
Administration: Very Incompetent
Honesty: Work it out for yourself

it would be good if the DVLA did withdraw it - no need to sell it and sue the dealer for it's value

well i guess they did retain it - technically they had it for 7 months, then had it under a different owner for another 7 months :rolleyes:So thats why you asked the monkeys to retain your registration Derek
i'm sure they will have awards for incompetency but just don't like to show them off
on a serious note, it doesn't say much for them that they cannot carry out a simple procedure - the largest dealer in scotland - comedians !!!

Colin,
It has now been two weeks since I spoke to you on Wednesday 19 February 2003 at Arnold Clark Lochrin Place and left you to sort out the problem regarding the retention document for the registration plate K16 DDS. As you are aware the retention document has the name and address of a person that does not have legal title to the registration number.
Malcolm did phone me two days later on Friday 21 February 2003 asking what I intended doing with the plate and he was advised it would be advertised for sale. He said he would go back and look into it but since then I have heard nothing.
As Arnold Clark were paid £105 by myself for this registration to be placed on retention on 6/12/01 which you will notice has been "16 months" then I have no option but to set a deadline for this situation to be rectified within the next 7 days. If this matter isn't solved to my satisfaction which is obviously the retention document in my name (not as a nominee) as it should have been in the first place then I intend to take legal advice. It would then be my intention to take further action against Arnold Clark to recover the associated costs of this action due to their incompetence in this matter so far.
I look forward to your early reply. Please make all correspondence regarding this matter by e-mail or post.
Yours sincerely

yet another victory over arnold clark
i'll keep it short, but i got a reply to the above e-mail after two days asking me to transfer the plate to a vehicle in my name then put it back on retention in my own name and they would cover all reasonable costs.
nice of them
: no i thought so refused and said they had 5 days left to sort it or i would take legal action and sue them for £355 (£250 plate cost me + £105 i paid them to put it on retention) plus legal costs and expenses.
on day 7 i got a letter offering full settlement of £355 without prejudice.
good result me thinx
