Well I thought I would show you this product ( http://www.prolong-uk.com ) that I used on the Jetta and am now using on the fiesta, my Puma doesnt do enough miles to justify its use (1 mile per month on average).

The stuff is called Prolong. You get a gearbox oil addative and one for the engine oil. Also there is a fuel system cleaner.

On some tests I saw they took the engine oil out of a Dodge Viper and then raced it in the desert - no problems. They also drove a car 3000 miles across the USA and no problems.

When I used them on the Jetta the gearbox that screamed until you reached 80mph was quiet, the engine ran cooler and i got an extra 10MPG from the car. Bear in mind this was an F reg with over 100,000 miles on it.

Ask me if you have any questions or just read the web page.

If we have enough interest I may ring and try and get a deal for anyone who comes from this forum

oh yeah, there is a warranty with it that if your car is less than 9 nears old and has less than 100,000 miles on it. If you treat the car with these products at their recommended intervals then they will guarantee all lubricated parts of your engine for as long as you own the car.

I will be testing this with the fiesta, gonna drive it into the ground.

http://www.fernblatt.com/longhurst/additives.html

"The manufacturers of the ProLong engine additive have been dealt a smack in the face by a Consumer Reports Magazine report into their product. CR attempted to reproduce the "no oil" test where all the oil was drained out of an engine which had been treated with ProLong, and then the engine was run. CR managed a maximum of 13 seconds running out of each of two engine before they seized up, welding the pistons to the barrels."

The rest of the page is well worth a read as well.

Snake oil, I'm afraid, as are all of these additives (e.g. Slick 50). There's no substitute for running on decent fully synth oil (e.g. Mobil 1 Motorsport, Motul 300V, Castrol RS).

PS: don't worry, I've done it too. I ran a Saab with Slick 50 in it for about 60k miles (bought it with 87k on the clock, sold it with 151k on). But having read these reports and others, I wouldn't do it again.

I used to run my cars with Slick 50 as well. They were only worth a few hundred though...
