does anyone else ever find it hard to put into gear, i.e you have to really push the gear stick into place? mainly happens wen starting i.e gear one and two. this happens mainly wen cold! i thought the clutch was faulty but after it has been running for a while it works and changes gear smoothly. does this happen to anybody and wat is wrong with it?

Yeah I get the same. Mainly 1st and 2nd, and it's not that smooth going between them. I'm not sure what causes it - I thought it was just cos this is my first manual and I wasn't shifting right yet. I have noticed if you're dropping down to one of those gears it seems that you have to be below a certain speed/revs for the shift to go into those gears, which I assume is a protection mechanism.

Anyone got some knowledge on this?

Yeah. See the posts I made months ago about double-clutching.

On modern gearboxes with synchros, there's no need to do it (unless you're changing into 1st gear at 50mph or something daft) but it will reduce wear on the gearbox.

Well it effectively just said what I said there. If you're having problems getting into gear, try double-clutching (if changing up) and double-declutching (if changing down).

Double clutching involves putting clutch in, change to neutral, clutch out, clutch in, change up, clutch out. This decreases the engine speed to match the the gearbox speed.

Couble declutching involves putting clutch in, change to neutral, 'blip' the engine, clutch in, change down, clutch out. This increases the engine speed to match the gearbox speed.

Dear colleagues, I wrote on the 27th of November that I had difficulty engaging the 1st gear and many problems especially trying to use the reverse gear!!!! (A noise was heard when engaging the revese gear as if when you put the reverse gear and the car has not stopped comletely) I had my car repaired and everything now is ok.... The monkeys of LION HELLAS the official Peugeot dealer in GREECE followed the following procedure.
1. They replaced the clutch.
2. They replaced a part called "compler" of 1st and 2nd gear. It is a part that is used by the gear box to make the change between the 1st and 2nd gear.
3. Finally they changed the small wheel of the reverse gear in the gear box.

After that I have been driving my car for three monyhs and everything is ok.
