Ok it is interesting listening to issues re: squeaky brakes. I've have my car since 19th September. After about 300 miles I noticed the brakes squeaking. Now at 500 miles they are still squeaking. I was going to report this as a fault - anything to do with brakes is worrying and the last time I heard squeaking on braking like this was when the brake disk pads had worn down on my last car.

Are people saying this is a issue with these cars?

my brakes were squealing very embarrassingly at 2k miles. i took it in and they totally stripped down and cleaned the brakes on all 4 wheels.

i was very unhappy and made sure they knew it, that i waited nearly 4 hours when it should have been 2 hours. they forgot to fix the carpet but a monkey can only do one thing at a time.

end story - a miracle :!: just hitting 10k miles and not a squeak out of the brakes :)

I've just discovered this problem on mine too, it's just started happening at 8000 miles. How do I know if my brake pads are worn down?? Is it a case of taking in into a garage and asking??

I know I sound very thick but I don't have a clue about cars!

Cheers

I heard that problem is that the brake pads no longer use asbestos. I think it was banned or something. So the manufacturers used other materials in its place which unfortuantely squeak. So if you replace your break pads with another brand, you should not have a problem. But I have not heard anyone complain about the braking ability of the cars. So I guess whatever substitute was choosen works pretty well where it counts. Can anyone confirm this.

If you do have a problem with the pads, this can be easily spotted on the discs. Are the discs worn unevenly or scored and marked? If it is then it's probably the pads worn down and need replacing. Depends how hard you brake though. When I need them replaced I'll be replacing mine with black diamond grooved and drilled discs with a harder compound pad. The braking performance will be greatly increased and there will be no squeeking sound but it does make a lovely sound when braking (you'll have to trust me on this one!)

Know I'm tempting fate here but I haven't had any problems with sqeeky brakes since I got my car. I think I mentioned some time ago that they must of changed the type of breakpads used. My cay is a Y reg

i think my reply shows the problem CAN be fixed so time to get your local monkey put in his place :)

mines were very bad and there hasn't been a squeak in the last 8k miles.
