MOT Time

Post by Johnnyb60 »

Hi Again,
Today it was MOT time for the little Pug and as it's still a new car for me I was a little anxious to see if I bought a lemon or a good car 7 months back.
As the MOT tester did his checks I watched nervously ,hoping I wouldn't be stung with a large bill (especially just after Christmas).
Well it turned out to be good news!
The little Pug pasted with flying colours with no advisories.
In fact the tester commented on how good it was and showed me the underside of the car whilst it was up on the ramps.
After the awful wet winter conditions the underside was looking factory fresh.
I think the extensive wax oyling I did at the end of last summer has really paid off in keeping it well preserved.
For a 21 year old car its truly looking remarkable.
These cars are getting ever increasingly rare nowadays and if you've got a good one, I'm quietly hoping they may one day start to hold there price and dare I say increase in value.
In the time I've owned it, its not let me down once.
Yes it's not perfect and it does have a few annoying traits such as the poor windscreen demisting in the cold weather and the short gearing ( I'm always looking for an extra gear at cruising speed) but in hindsight "it is what it is" and touch wood it's been a good car for the twisty narrow roads of Wales.
After treating the roof seals with silicone grease last autumn it's not let a drop of water in throughout the winter (I can't recommend that stuff enough).
It returning a solid 38 mpg through the colder months.
I've decided to do oil changes every 5k and when I went to replace the air filter element I was surprised to find the old one was actually an upgraded K/N filter in the housing.
That probably explains why it sounds a little throaty on hard acceleration.
I've just cleaned and re oiled it and put it back in for now, but I might replace it with a standard one in the spring as the induction noise is a little intrusive sometimes.
Well that's it really,
It's been better than I expected through the winter, It's behaved like a normal saloon car and I can't wait for the better weather to arrive so I can enjoy it to it's full potential with the top down again.
All the very best,
