Heater Blowing Cold Air - Aircon working

Hi I have a 2 litre LHD with auto aircon. I am also in Spain and know the aircon is working as it runs for about 9 month's of the year with outside temp around mostly between 25c - 35c. However in the winter the temp drops to about 9c at night and my aircon only pumps cold air. Coolant is OK - no need for antifreeze it never freezes - and level is fine. The only observation I can see is that the engine temperature gauge in Winter only reaches about 70. In summer higher but I assume that is down to the outside temperature. Not sure where to start. Any guidance much appreciated. Thanks

Hi Gary,
The first thing I would change/check would be the thermostat.
Being the climate were you live is on the whole is nice and warm you've not noticed any issues with it, but now it's a little cooler the cars engine is not getting to it's full working temp.
I would also strongly recommend using antifreeze too in your car even though it never freezes where you live.
Antifreeze plays an important part in stopping corrosion inside the engine coolant system ,eg the engine block and even the thermostat.
The thermostat is cheap and easy the change and the antifreeze can be done at the same time making it a simple task.
