key not working properly

Post by coupeguy »

I recently got myself a 206cc 2004 1.6 from some random guy (with all proper papers ofcourse)
I've been handed 2 keys, one with 2 buttons & one standard key.
The problem is, the one with my lock & unlock buttons doesn't lock or unlock the car at all.
I've done this routine that's in the manual, start car, hold the buttons etc.. but doesn't seem to work at all.
Is there any other way to fix this or something I could try? I dont see myself spending 100 pound to get a key programmed etc.

Thanks

1. Try a new battery in the fob.

2. A common fault is that the microswitches on the module fail. They can be bought on EBay and replaced with a small soldering iron. Perhaps it is only the lock button switch. Lock the car with the key, and then try to unlock with the small button.

3. The BSI may have "forgotten" the key. To re-register it in the BSI, you will need:

a) Peugeot Planet 2000
b) The 4 digit security code supplied originally with the car. If you don't have that http://www.carkeycodes.co.uk.
c) Both keys - they have to be re-registered at the same time, as the process wipes the previous registrations from the BSI.

If all the above fail, you will have to replace the keyfob (module AND the immobiliser chip), and programme it as above. Expect to pay upwards of £50. Do not buy a used one - they cannot be re-used on a different car. There are four different modules, depending on vehicle age and whether it has front fogs, so do not buy a Chinese knock-off - it probably will not work.
