Track Rod Replacement

Post by ribs99 »

Hi all,

My wifes 206cc has just failed the MOT because of a bent track rod (Offside). I went to have a go at changing it today but I couldn't see any way to get the old one off. It is bolted on to the steering rack but there is no obvious way of unbolting it. The new one has slots so you can put a spanner on it but the old one doesn't.

I found these instructions: http://www.peugeot206cc.co.uk/repair-20 ... eg0dk3.htm but they mention requiring two specials tools. I can't even find these tools online so just wondering if anyone else has done this?

The space around the area you need to work is quite tight but I really don't want to have to take the whole steering rack out if I don't have to.

Can anyone help?

Thanks Col for the reply. I bought one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/141858129482? ... EBIDX%3AIT as it was half the price and can't really see me ever using it again.

The job was straight-forward but the track-rod end wouldn't budge and needed heating up to get it free.

Car has now passed the MOT and wife is very happy again :)
