206 SW 1.4 16V problems 54 plate

Post by daniboy123 »

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help with a few issues I'm having with my sisters 206. I was told that the car went into limp mode when they were out driving. Low on power, and ECU light flashing. I wasn't there to verify this but have since started the car. It struggled briefly, stuttering when revved, a consistent misfire. The ECU light was flashing and there was an audible beep. This soon cleared up and it ran how it used to before, a rough idle as it "hunts" but would rev smoothly. The ECU light was again on solidly rather that flashing.

I plugged in a generic fault code reader and downloaded the app for it. It was a bluetooth device and it appeared to succesfully pair with my phone which stated it had connected with the ECU.
Although the engine management light is on constantly, searching for stored faults yielded nothing so I was unable to determine where to start.

Is there any means of resetting the ECU without using a device? I've read a few methods but not sure which applies to this car.
Also is there a reasonably priced code reader that will work with this car? Any help appreciated, thanks in advance.

This forum is for the CC version and doesn't have this engine in the range. However as a 2004 petrol engine you need an EOBD compatible code reader or preferably use PP2000.

Don't expect an OBDII unit to work 100% .. They aren't the same. The is what most bluetooth units are.

You might get more help on the engine on 206info.co.uk

Hi thanks for the reply, can anyone recommend a compatible reader? Also what is PP2000? Thanks.

Any proper pro reader will read it- I use S.P, Macscan, Snapon, Launch etc:(and PP2000 as a last resort) 1st 3 are stand alone units PP2000 is Peugeots own diagnostics, usually pirated and runs on a laptop.
