Peugeot 206 A/C issues

Post by jnin »

Hi guys
Looks like this car has more Gremlins than I thought...
A/C issue now. I took it to the mechanic and re gassed the system as it was almost empty from what I was told.
I checked it briefly when I got it from the mechanic and looked like it was working.
I didnt use it for a week and a half and now it just blows warm air. The funny thing is that on the drivers side it blows more hot than on the passengers side. I checked for leaks on the air con pipes and I couldnt see anything
I noticed that when I press the A/C button, compressor engages and stays on and I also hear the clicking noise, but Ive notice that fan is not working.
As far as I know and see there is only one fan on these models correct? And it should turn on as soon as I turn on the A/C no matter the temp of the car?
Something else which might be important is that fan is working when car gets up to temperature but it has to go above the middle of the gauge to turn on. After that when the gauge goes back in the middle the fan is turning off, so I think the fan is ok too?
Any ideas?
Thanks

Did they use the u/v light and dye to check for leaks?

No I checked it...Compressor stays on...What I ve noticed is that when the car gets up to temperature and the fan starts to spin the air becomes a bit colder. There is a fuse that says A/C fan in the engine but it appears to be fine...

That's not the same .. unless it had dye you'll be hard pressed to see any leaks as the a/c gas is colourless! Compressor will work (just) if it has some pressure but not properly unless under full pressure.

I had my Alfa's A/C pressure tested and recharged and it looked ok .. for two days .. then it started to blow warm again. A dye and u/v test didn't show anything either .. apart from a hint of a leak from the front drivers side but no obvious sign. I had to remove the bumper and inner wing to find it .. the hose was sliced through where it had been rubbing on the bodywork.

How could you see if the leak was in the condenser unit especially if between condenser and rad?

True...So I have to take a trip to the mechanic again...
