Economy mode, car won't start
I have a 2002 Peugeot 206cc 2L. My key fob open button broke, as a result of this my alarm wouldn't stop going off, my fiancé cut the alarm out. Then realized economy mode came on and we couldn't start the car. Then my fiancé rewired the alarm and put it back in as normal. Managed to get the open button working, to clear the alarm. However now the economy mode won't go off and dipped headlights don't work and wiper blades don't work. Also, run a bsi reset which didn't help! Any ideas? Please help!

Re: Economy mode, car won't start
Have you tried recharging the car battery? It probably got depleted with the alarm going off continuously. Once the battery is charged the car should start and economy mode should then disappear.
As for the ignition key, buy a new plastic fob case for a couple of quid off eBay and replace just the broken side with the buttons on yours. No need to replace anything else if the rest isn't damaged.

Re: Economy mode, car won't start
Thanks for the replies, the car does not start or run. Recharged the battery numerous times as I figured the arm going off would drain it. Tried everything whilst the jump leads were on too. I bought a new key fob off eBay but the buttons seem to be totally broken now..the only way of opening and closing the doors is to use a bit of copper wire to touch onto the main board of the key (my partner is an electrician and managed to make it work temporarily this way!) the car just won't start, economy mode went off for a while once we reconnected the alarm, but now economy mode is back on and I'm running out of ideas, a mechanic friend of ours said there's no other faults showing up so the actual car is fine, it just will not start and economy mode won't go away..it's driving me insane

Re: Economy mode, car won't start
Its gone into economy mode to protect the battery life, once if starts it will dissappear and everything will power up again, its meant to be like that.
Do you get a message on the screen that says immobiliser fault when turning it over?

Re: Economy mode, car won't start
I have not had a message saying anything about an immobilizer fault, just the economy mode. I realized that the economy mode was coming on to protect the battery, which is why I found it strange that even when the battery had be recharged and even had the jump leads attached it still won't start. There's just a slow chugging noise and economy mode flashes up constantly

Re: Economy mode, car won't start
Ok that rules out the transponder then, dont worry about eco mode its automated its nothing to do with how much charge is left in the battery. Slow chugging noise sounds to me like you might have a failed coilpack which can in turn lead to a failed/blocked cat that can cause these symptoms but it could be absolutely anything, have you had a code reader on it at all? Even the 12 pound cheapo ones off ebay can diagnose them suscessfully and clear faults

Have you had the keyfob apart? If so could the transponder chip have fallen out without you noticing? Without it the car won't be able to start.

Cutting through the alarm wires while live wasn't the best idea ... Especially for an electrician...

This may be the vehicle protecting against theft. If so, it is likely you would need Planet to overcome that.
For future reference, if you cannot silence the alarm with the key, just put it in the ignition and turn on. The key will be recognised, alarm will be silenced and reset.

Slow chugging sounds like battery didn't recover from being flattened. Have you got another battery you can try temporarily?
Cheers Col.

Re: Economy mode, car won't start
Ok just to clear a few things up.. When I realised something was wrong with the car, the alarm was going off and WOULDN'T turn off even when I out the key in the ignition, usually his would silence the alarm but it made no difference. The car did not start and rest as suggested, hence my desperation to the situation!
The reason my partner cut the wires to the alarm was because it had been going off for almost an hour straight and was driving and us all our neighbours insane! We did it to just make it stop, regardless of the profession you're in I can guarantee anyone here would have done the same in the same situation! I have just had the key fixed as I couldn't seem to find the old chip after night after night of standing in the dark messing around with it, but now need a code for it to sync it to the car. Peugeot are being very difficult about giving this to me and I'm doubtful this will even help fix the car at all! Does anyone at all have any other suggestions?!

Sounds as if I was right Slo. They had lost the transponder chip out of the fob.Slo wrote:It would flag immobiliser fault if that was missing when trying to start it that's why i asked
