Weird noise and leak

Post by Emily1233 »

Hi ive just bought a 2006 1.6 petrol 206cc with only 37k on the clock i love the car but i have two problems. First is when the engines cold and i first start to drive the i hear a springing sound when i press the peddles (mostly the accelerator) and go round corners ect. It sound like a metal spring sound It then goes away after about 5 minutes of driving, Ive sprayed wd40 on the srings under the peddles but the sound is still there. I think it could be something to do with the suspention but the coil springs look new to me. Does anyone know what it could be ?
My other problem is a leak on the passenger side where the seals join above the widow ive read that silicone grease is good so i will try that. It looks like the seal on the out side of the windw is damaged and has a small cut in, this is also the same on the drivers side.peugeot quoted me £107 plus labour for new seals for one side, does anyone know if silicone grease fills in cuts in the seals? Also when i close the doors the windows dont go under the seal properly and i have to physically push it under. Do i need my windows adjusting? Any help would be great! Thanks

Hello Emily, welcome to the forum. There is no need to ask the same question twice on here.

We have a similar car with low mileage and our suspension creaks a bit from time to time. I've never worried about it. Be careful spraying around the accelerator as I don't think you'll have a cable which needs lubricating - it'll be "fly by wire".

Our seals above the windows are not damaged but there is a tiny gap which used to leak a little. I bought a tub of clear silicon grease from our local plumbers merchants and worked that into it. That worked. I also use the grease on the door seals and roof seals from time to time. Be careful if you do your roof seals - don't leave your roof half open or switch off the ignition midway through the opening/closing cycle or you'll have serious trouble.

You will probably find that lubricating the seals is all you need to get the windows to go under them properly but there is some adjustment if that doesn't work. Capncol explained how to do it I think in one of his posts. A trawl through his posts should turn it up for you to read.

A waterproof rain cover sounds a good idea.

There are slots in the bottom of the sills to drain water. They are probably blocked. Use a piece of wire to unblock them.
