Battery drain

Post by MrTin »

Hi, we bought our 206CC last week and all has been fine, but I noticed the start was a little sluggish on Wednesday and yesterday it wouldn't turn over at all. I jump started it, went out, it started again and got me home, but this morning absolutely no starter at all, even though the dash lights were all on. I've ordered a new battery, but wondered if anyone has had this problem.
Is there something that is still "switched on" that I don't know about, when the car is left?

Cheers,
Martin

A boot light or glovebox light left on will drain the battery. Is the alternator putting out enough charge? Using a meter across the battery, you should see around 14.4V on fast idle (1500rpm) anything less than 13.4 V and your alternator is weak / U.S

Thanks,
my son suggested the boot light might be it. Bit like the fridge though, isn't it? You don't know unless the boot is open, so maybe the best thing is to simply take the bulb out. I have bought a new battery and so far it seems OK, but I'll get my son-in-law to check the alternator output. Electrics are a mystery to me.

I'd get my grandchildren to check it out for me. They wouldn't be in there for long and I'd give them an ice-cream as a reward.
