Sorry to return to the boring subject of fuel consumption.

I posted a message about a month ago on the old forum saying that I am only getting 27mpg from my 2.0CC. Thanks for the replies – it seems that 33 to 35 is more the norm.

However mine is getting worse, its now down to 24mpg. My dealer cant find anything wrong and says that figure is within acceptable limits!

All they can suggest is that they have the car for a week, use a tank full and see what they get out of it.

I am left with no alternative so have agreed to that, but I would like to know if anyone else has such poor fuel consumption.

I know I will probably have to live with it in the end but I want it checked out in case there is anything that could cause a big problem. A fuel leak perhaps – unlikely as there is no smell, or the wrong mixture could damage the cat’. About 10 years ago I had a Calibra, when it was only 6 months old the cat died. As it is part of the exhaust it wasn’t covered under the warranty so they wanted £500 for a new one. So I am just trying to do something to cover myself if anything happens in the future.

on a tankful, i only get between 29-30 mpg.

as i don't drive in an exactly economical way it is to be expected.

i went to work the other morning and left in plenty of time for the 25 mile trip. half is a mix between A & B roads and the rest is motorway. driving at reasonable speeds produced just over 34mpg.

hope this helps.

derek

The bulk of my driving is commuting and I do about 60 miles a day on motorways, usually a fairly steady 60/70 mph.

I get 30 mpg quite easily until I indulge myself.

Turning off the air-conditioning is good for gaining 1 or 2 mpg too. Do you really need it on in January.
