Another Roof issue (Resolved)

Hi all, First time poster but long time reader

My wife has had the car for a number of years with a few of the usual problems worst being the real axel
But the roof has never has an issue, until now.

so a discription of the issue:

Roof operates kind of normally goes up and down fine. but it is as if the final action on close is not completing.
She came home saying the car is bleeping at her while she drives it, so i took out for a run and rightly so once over the 5mph mark the bleeping starts, get both the short bleeps and the fast bleeps.

Rear heated window not operating either

I opened the front latches and got no bong, press roff button and it starts to operate but did not lower the windows, I closed the front latch and open the windows from the window switch, the released catch and tried to open roof. hey presto pump operates and boot opens up roof folds down, parcel shelf pops out and boot closes and hear both catches lock, but the motor continues to operate and get no final bleep. eventually after around 10-15 seconds the motor stops and the continuious bleeps start.

so press button to raise roof and again all works as should, boot opens parcel shelf folds down and roof lifts up into place, then boot closes again hear both catches lock and again no bleep, mottor continues untill fail and continious bleeps.

So i try the BSI reset as stated in capncol post in topic.php?f=23&t=13473. (i'm not allowed to post links yet

issue still the same.

So now i go about checking all the 12 mirco switches, i say 12 rather than 11 at the tailgate lock has 2 mirco switches locted in it, with a multimeter all working correctly, also checked each operating with the roof action as manually opertated the roof to see if this would fix this issue.

Checked the fluid level in the pump and is fine.
pressed down on the locks after close to double check they locking in.

I am now out of ideas, all I can think now is the roof ecu is corrupted and will need replacing, but I thought maybe I should ask here to see if anyone else could shed some light on it.

I have not had it read on a reader as of yet as I do not have one capible of reading roof problems.


Also to add the battery had not been disconected or gone flat nor was the roof opened or closed recently and not completed a cycle. No chance the roof coming down in the weather we having

Sounds like the "roof closed" micro switch may have gone out of adjustment. It's one of the switches in upper left of boot.

I did try adjusting this switch also. I adjusted it so it activated as late as possible which was around 20 cm from full closure of the roof.

I haven't tried adjusting the arm on it. Do you know at roughly what position it should activate. I will trace the wiring back to the ecu over the weekend as well to look to see if there is any broken wires.

Yes verified with meter.

I will adjust the arm on the micro switch and see if I can get it so it as close as possible to too panel and let you know how it turns out.

I have no access to the car at the moment but was just thinking about this some more.

If the roof closed micro switch didn't activate correctly would the next stage of tailgate close then lock the catches on each side not start??

All actions complete including locking both catches and activating the micro switches. Also verified with multimeter. But then no bong motor just continues until time out and the bleeps
Start.

Sorry for the delay, havent had anytime over last few days due to valentines and birthdays.

So got to have a look today rechecked the mirco switches and all activating, so I checked continuity between each mirco switch in the tailgate and the main plug located just the the left of the roof ecu.

the 3rd brakelight and the 2 locks failed, checking the wiring i found 2 wires broken at the hinge on the n/s where it is only protected by a mesh type sleeving. soldered the wires back together, heatshrink over the repair and added some extra insulation tape along the wiring to help protect and future mishaps.

replaced the roof fuse and as soon as the top latches opened the bong noise activated, pressed switch and windows lowered roof retracted, tailgate colsed and locked and the bong came.

All working again. one happy wife

You may just have found my problem ... the third brake light isn't working. I though it was the bulbs as they were failing one by one until finally none worked. It's a sealed unit so got an LED version and that won't work at all. So my initial thoughts that the bulbs had all gone was probably wrong and I'd been looking for a break in the wiring but didn't know where to start ... I do now!

I hope you get your 3rd brake light sorted gazza.

It does look like a weak spot in the wiring (badly designed). It comes off the N/S hinge and then loops back and down then goes behind the side panel.

The plug is located behind the upper trim just to the left of the roof ecu, if you want to do a continuity check from the brake light plug and the main plug to check if any are broken.
