On and off airbag fault warning

Post by callista »

I have a 206cc automatic, 2006 and I use it occasionally as I work from home. I don't drive it less than before, actually more often if nothing else, but it seems a little hesitant to start when it's been a couple days it's not been driven. And when it doesn't start straight away, I get a "Airbag fault" warning on my display in the middle of the dashboard and the airbag light comes on on my dashboard. Today I went out, and on my way back it was also a little unsure it wanted to start and both airbag lights came on. When it starts straight away, there is is no airbag fault warning at all. I wonder if the lack of power is resetting something in there and gives a false warning? Anyone got that problem? Seems like it's been doing this since it's got colder and wetter out. I wonder if I need a new battery perhaps?

If it is the original battery then it is getting on for 9 years old and will be reaching the end of its life. The symptoms you are experiencing are typical. Ours is an 05 and I had to have a new battery nearly 2 years ago when it was 8 years old.

Take care, get the correct battery 190mm tall one for the 206cc not the 175mm tall one which is for the hatchback. When I replaced mine I used an Exide EA530 which fitted perfectly http://thebatteryshop.co.uk/exide-premi ... 2162-p.asp

It is important to follow the correct battery disconnection and reconnection procedure too.

Could well do. A failing battery can set off all manner of odd faults. But also check the connections. If there is a white "fur" forming around the terminals, this can cause the battery to appear weak. The damp uses this to reduce the effectiveness of the connection.

How old is the one in there? Anything over 4-5 years and it is going to be starting to fail. And not using a car is almost as bad a using it too much where the battery is concerned. Might be time to invest before it lets you down :censored:

As it is a CC, you will need to get a 190mm high battery ... don't let them fob you off with a 175mm one for a hatchback. I recently got a good deal from carparts4less.co.uk and they deliver .. assuming someone can fit it (don't forget the proper procedure for disconnecting/reconnecting!) Not sure if an Auto needs anything specific but I'd got for the highest amp/hr and CCA rating you can afford.

Thank you both, I am not sure how long this battery has been in there, I will have to check the service history, there should be something about the battery in there. But as it was very low mileage when I bought it considering its age, I suspect it was never changed. So I'll invest in one.

Make sure you follow the correct process for changing the battery. It's at the top of the electrical section.
Cheers Col.

Thanks col, we'll do! :)

I have ordered a battery from carparts4less and I thought you guys might be interested to know that they currently have offers, I saved £5.00 on a £51 battery. Hopefully that will solve that problem. There are a couple of other things I will post about once I have figured out which section they should go in!

Ok, you pays your money and take your choice. Cheaper, less powerful, smaller capacity and shorter warranty than what I recommended but that is up to you. Hope it sorts it for you.

Look forward to hearing about the other matters in due course.

Ron it is a little less powerful, and has a 3 year warranty, which is probably longer than I will have the car for, it is getting on a little so I don't know how long it will last. The battery I got is a Bosch Battery S3 Battery 012.

Thanks again.
