Check the doors, glovebox and boot are properly shut. Have you got something dangling, like an air freshener from the mirror?
Cheers Col.

Hi, ive checked the doors, boot, bonnet, i do have air freshners dangling, but they have never set alarm off, i was thinking it may be electrical fault, as when ive set the alarm off, the lights usually flash, but they didnt this time round. Could it possibly be telling me the battery needs changing?

Disable the internal movement sensors and see if that improves the situation (on our 2000 there's a button down on the right of the dash to do that)

Well done.
Would have been better if you actually found a cause though as there is always a chance it could happen again.
Cheers Col.
