New Shropshire 206 cc owner

Post by Sylvester »

Hi

Sadly I have joined because of a problem with my cc, It was running fine last week after a few days away I needed to use the car today when I tried to start it I heard a relay click behind the dash but engine wouldn't turn over I had full dash lights, lights all worked ok.
After carrying out a BSI reset (as per Capncols instructions) I got economy mode on the display I checked the battery and it has 13.75 volts. I then retried to start the car and it cranked over and the stopped the display then showed immobilizer fault and has now gone back to not starting at all.
My diagnostic tool shows no faults when you code read.

I have just realised I missed off the model type it is an SE I have no inertia fuel cut off under the bonnet.

Hi. What engine, year etc? What code reader did you use?
Cheers Col.

Welcome to the forum. How old is the battery?

Thank you to GrandadMonkey and Capncol for replying, the car is a 2002 SE 2.0 S16 5 speed g/box, the code reader is an Autel Maxiscan MS309.
The battery is a Halfords silver battery 017 which was fitted just before I bought the car, I used to work for Halfords (no jokes please) so understand the id code the battery is an August 2014 production run. I bought the car on 23 Sept.
I have had no problems with it since I bought it apart from a blown reverse light bulb and heater panel bulb, up till until now, I have tried every procedure listed on this site to no avail, I am going to charge the battery today just in case, and will be checking the earth straps, my car is parked on the drive so if I remove the battery with the drivers window up will it affect the BSI? Thank you both for your help, my 406 coupe was never this frustrating.

I think you'll find that the battery is the wrong one for the car. The correct battery for the 206cc is 190mm tall. I think that someone has tried to use the cheaper 175mm tall battery designed perhaps for the 206 hatchback.

Use of the shorter battery puts strain on the terminal connections and causes breaks in continuity. Check the height of the battery. There are many posts on this forum where cheapskates have caused problems by trying to save money by fitting the wrong one, e.g.
http://www.peugeot206cc.co.uk/viewtopic ... 23&t=14982

Your problem with replacing the battery with the window up is that you wouldn't be able to follow the reconnection procedure correctly and could "spike" an electrical component such as the ecu.

I was afraid of that GM hence have done nothing yet, The battery is a HB013 the spec is

Startup Power: 480A
AH Value: 56
Reserve capacity: 90
Bench Charge: 5.6 Amps
Average Weight (kg): 15.40
Dimensions (LxDxH): 242x175x190

Thanks for the input

Finding a code reader that works on a Peugeot is not easy. As it us a 2002 model an EOBD compatible unit should work ... but I wouldn't guarantee it. That isn't OBDII btw .. that's the older US version of the diag system.

Also a generic code reader is unable to see the Pug specific stuff like BSI, etc.

Sometimes only PP2000 gets the codes you want.

And sometimes even new batteries can be faulty.

With the probable intermittent connectivity caused by the shorter battery you are lucky that nothing has been "spiked" already. I wouldn't bother recharging the incorrect battery, I'd see if I could sell it as nearly new. I would buy a new one to the correct specification (you may find your Peugeot main dealer doing special deals on batteries at this time of year) and fit it using the battery disconnection/reconnection method shown here:
http://www.peugeot206cc.co.uk/viewtopic ... 23&t=13473

Alternatively, if funds are short, you could use a piece of 15mm thick plywood under the battery to pack it up to the correct height. I wouldn't but other folk have done as an interim measure.

Thank you both for the continued input, I now have the correct battery (027) it was exchanged by Halfords (customer goodwill) as they supplied the incorrect unit, the code reader is connecting up and giving readings it is OBD2 and EOBD compliant.
However after going through the instillation procedure for BSI the economy mode is still active I can hear a relay click behind the dashboard, and when trying to start with lights on they do not dim. So I am fairly certain the starter is ok.

I am at a loss as what else to do.

Don't worry about the economy mode. That will go when you eventually start it.
I would try and *bump* or tow start car to eliminate anything to do with the running of the engine. Try that and let us know what happens, and we will advise further. OK.
Cheers Col.

Sylvester, can you just confirm that the engine is actually turning over on the starter motor and not firing up .. or you just get a click from that relay and no starter sound? :|

Gazza,

Thank you for your question, I just get a click from the relay and no starter sound, I tried to bump start it today as Col suggested with no success. I have replaced the key fob batteries with new ones.

Are there any members with pp2000 who could do a full code read for me? I am in the West Midlands, Bridgnorth area.
