Installing new (short) car stereo
Hi, I bought an MP3 car stereo off Ebay a few months ago, which is a few inches shorter than conventional cassette playing car stereos, as it only plays from SD cards and USB sticks, and I was wondering if there is such a thing as an extended black plastic 'knob' that sticks out the back of the original Peugeot car stereo unit? The one I have is too short to reach the mounting hole at the back of the stereo slot, has anybody else fitted one of these stereos in their Peugeot 206? I need about an extra two inches to reach the mounting hold at the back.

Re: Installing new (short) car stereo
I also have another problem - when I turn off the engine, and then go to use the car again, the car stereo appears to have had its power disconnected completely, and all its settings have been reset, so it's back at track one (out of 3,000 plus tracks on my SD card), and I have to change the bass settings, etc. back to the way I want them - every time! Is this normal for the Peugeot 206? It didn't used to do it on my old Ford Escort.

There are two live feeds and they need to be swapped to power the radio memory permanently and not via the ignition as it is now. Red and yellow iirc

Thanks very much gazza! I will give that a go. I also managed to fix the problem with the plastic mount on the back, I will make a short webpage with photos, showing how I did it, so that other people can see how, then post up the link here. (I may be able to make it into a post here, which would probably be better, I'll see what I can do.)

Re: Installing new (short) car stereo
Hi Gazza, I swapped the cables over, red and yellow, but it didn't make any difference. What I've noticed is that my coolbox, which is plugged into the lighter socket, also cuts out when I turn off the ignition. It didn't used to do this in my Ford Escort (but that may have been a fault in the Escort, who knows).
Since I swapped over the battery cable and the ignition cable, presumably the 'always on' signal from the battery is now going to the 'ignition' part of the car stereo, and the 'always on' signal it is expecting from the battery, is now coming from the ignition cable, which of course is intermittent.

Re: Installing new (short) car stereo
Hi, I think the problem may be a blown fuse, because the light above the rear view mirror doesn't come on when I move the switch, and doesn't come on when I open the door, and the odometer isn't lit up (and I don't think it has been since I bought the car).
I tested the eight lower connectors on the power loom, they are as follows:
1 xxxxx 2 Grey 5 White 7 Red
2 Brown 4 Purple 6 xxxxx 8 Green/yellow
With ignition OFF:
1:xxx 3: 11.5v 5: 0v 7: 0v
2: 11.5v 4: 0v 6xxx 8: Earth
With ignition ON:
1:xxx 3: 0.9v 5: 0v 7: 12.3v
2: 4.5v 4: 11.6v 6xxx 8: Earth
I'm just looking through the Haynes manual, to see if I can work out which fuse powers the odometer and internal light, and that may fix the problem.

Re: Installing new (short) car stereo
I've just realised that I should be posting on the 206info site, as I don't have a 206CC (I didn't realise it was a different type of car - sorry!), so I've added some photos to a thread over there. Thanks for your help so far, Gazza.

Re: Installing new (short) car stereo
They are all the same under the skin. Both our 206's, the lighter socket goes off with the ignition so that's correct.
