Starting weirdness

Post by mawgan »

Hi everybody, have just joined the forum as I have just become the owner of a 2004 1400cc 206 Zest with 50k on the clock. Just like to say thankyou for all the info on this site which has proved invaluable.

I started encountering a weird problem when starting. All dials would drop to zero (with an audible click) and random fault lights would come up, most noticeably airbag/s. The time and date would also go to reset Thought this might be a starter solenoid problem so fitted new starter. sadly the problem persisted and now the car wouldn't start without some accelerator. Did some searching around and found this on Youtube:- /watch?v=xzm5fr0nnNo which is pretty much what I was experiencing. I messaged Bart van Enk and he replied Na het plaatsen van een nieuwe accu is het niet meer voorgekomen. Er schijnen wel vaker vage klachten te verschijnen naarmate je accu wat ouder/minder wordt. Which basically means put a new battery in.
I have done this and hey presto all is sweetness and light. This solution surprised me as the battery cranked the car well and looks relatively new.

Expensive guess but you got there in the end.

A failing battery often exhibits spurious warning lights - particularly the airbag one that you experienced.

If it was the original battery it had done very well. Many batteries have a date on them.

This forum is really intended for 206cc owners but you are very welcome. Good luck with your new car.
