I'm not a hard driver but like to drive to the speed limits - 30 in a 30, 60 on open road etc, and the car usually returns around 40MPG. I've just been on a 270 mile trip in the west coast of Scotland, which doesn't have any motorways, dual carrageway's and a shortage of straight roads too! The car returned 51MPG over the journey which I thought was very good. My diesel C-max doesn't do much better.
Does everyone else have good economy? and if so, why are these cars in the higher co2 emissions tax bracket? I pay more than double road tax for the 206cc!

Re: Good MPG?
That is a brilliant result. Our 1.6 averages 42mpg overall at this time of year. The road tax is a bit steep - at 166g/km it is more than our 2.0 diesel Golf estate - that averages over 60mpg usually.

51.4? I wish. my 2.0 gets about 37 if I'm lucky with a trailing wind, downhill, with the engine off

I wouldn't trust all the mpg readings from the computer ... some car's tend to be overly optimistic ...
Try the age old method of filling to the brim, using the car, then refilling. Calculate the miles covered and fuel used .. more accurate!

Yes, I did it that way too - it worked out at 54mpg!
Either way, it's good on fuel for a 1.6 petrol.

Re: Good MPG?
Well after a 4 hour drive to a place called Cadgwith from the Midlands non stop as well , I found the 206cc achieved 47mpg which I was more than impressed with for a 1.6 car , the drive itself was one of the most comfortable I have ever had in a car , no aches no pains as the seat was so comfy as the driving position . Again I have to say am well impressed , even though Ive only had it a mth I have had the Cam belts etc changed and the water pump as it was stripped down it felt silly not to change the pump for the silly price it costs, better safe than sorry . Onwards and upwards then looking forward to a meet some day with other owners , oh I saw some posts about changing the radios so you can play mp3s etc no need to buy an Fm transmitter so good for the money and saves all the hassle plus volume control still works off the stick
...... Drive safe .

You are doing well with that mpg. Sensible maintenance too.
